Senior Transmission Line Engineer

Kosmos Group is a leading multi-disciplinary engineering consulting firm, specializing in power transmission and distribution. We provide engineering services to utility companies, consultants, and contractors involved in designing and constructing power facilities, transmission lines, and substations across the United States and Canada. Our services range from feasibility studies and full engineering design to project closeout and as-built recordings.

Our Transmission Engineering team seeks a Transmission Line Engineer to support our growing Transmission & Distribution practice in Burnaby, Canada. This hybrid role involves working both in-office and remotely. The successful candidate will engage in all aspects of transmission line routing and design.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Plan, analyze, and design transmission line projects for utilities and other stakeholders.
  2. Report to a Project Engineer or Project Manager, focusing on project planning, analysis, and design.
  3. Understand project scope and deliverables; identify scope creep and coordinate remedies.
  4. Coordinate with engineers and technical staff to meet project needs efficiently.
  5. Collaborate with equipment vendors, clients, and other design disciplines.
  6. Lead meetings with clients, stakeholders, and contractors to review project needs and field conditions.
  7. Navigate the approval process with various agencies.
  8. Research issues affecting transmission line projects.
  9. Write and review technical reports and engineering studies.
  10. Prepare plans, specifications, and design packages.
  11. Create technical presentations and drawings.
  12. Perform detailed studies, plan reviews, and modeling tasks under supervision.
  13. Support construction with site visits and RFIs.
  14. Act as liaison between engineering and construction teams.
  15. Ensure adherence to design practices and serve as a focal point for the practice team.
  16. Coordinate peer reviews and quality assurance of deliverables.
  17. Utilize design tools such as PLS-CADD, PLS-TOWER, and PLS-POLE for quality reviews.
  18. Assist in preparing proposals and technical scopes.
  19. Mentor and guide less experienced engineers.
  20. Approve and stamp designs as Engineer of Record (EOR).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Master's degree is preferred.
  • At least 7 years of related experience.
  • Experience leading projects and conducting quality reviews.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.
  • Experience with 69kV to 500kV line design and proficiency in Power Line system software (e.g., PLS, PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE).
  • Advanced knowledge of PLS-POLE and PLS-TOWER.
  • Familiarity with GO95, NESC, and Wildfire Mitigation is a plus.
  • Strong skills in design, calculations, and software execution.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel.
