Job summary

McElhanney Ltd. in Western Canada seeks a Senior Planner to lead trail and outdoor recreation planning efforts. You will guide master plans, analyses, and reporting while mentoring junior staff and coordinating with clients and regulators.

The role requires travel across Canada and strong writing skills. The successful candidate will have a planning degree, CIP registration, 7+ years of experience, and expertise in GIS and data management.

Qualifications

• Degree in Planning or related discipline or equivalent experience.
• CIP registration or eligible for registration.
• 7+ years of experience in planning, sustainable trail/outdoor recreation.
• Strong technical writing, editing and report preparation skills.
• Experience with GIS, mapping, databases and related software.
• Project management experience incl. budgeting and scheduling.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills; travel up to two weeks.

Responsibilities

• Lead development of trail master plans, assessments, inventories and reports.
• Conduct research and data synthesis to support recommendations.
• Prepare technical reports, presentations and procurement documents.
• Manage a portfolio of projects with budgets and client expectations.
• Oversee trail inventory, planning, design and field inspections.
• Apply trail sustainability principles to recommendations.
• Plan field programs and travel for fieldwork across Canada.
• Produce and review mapping products and spatial data deliverables.
• Lead multidisciplinary project teams and mentor staff.
• Develop client relationships and pursue business opportunities.
