What We're Looking For
Join our growing Southern California Transportation Team! We are growing our offices in Orange County (Santa Ana) and in the Inland Empire (Ontario). We are supporting high profile transportation projects in the Inland Empire and Orange County such as Brightline West (high speed rail), I-10 Freeway corridor in San Bernardino, various LA Metro and Caltrans Highway projects! Why not grow your career in civil engineering while supporting these important projects that support the infrastructure in your communities?
At HNTB, you can create a career that is meaningful to you while building communities that matter to all of us. For more than a century, we have been delivering solutions for some of the largest, most complex infrastructure projects across the country. With our historic growth, it is an exciting time to join our team of employee-owners.
HNTB is currently seeking to hire a senior traffic project engineer in their Orange County or Ontario office. The target applicant will have eight to fifteen years of experience in traffic engineering and operations modeling, but slightly more or less experience is acceptable. The candidate will support our Southern California traffic staff in a variety of traffic operational analysis and traffic design tasks, including performing in a traffic task lead role. Project work will include modeling, data analysis, design, estimating, specifications, and report writing on freeway corridor, arterial, and transit projects at various stages of development (ranging from the planning phase through construction). Typical deliverable work includes feasibility studies, technical studies in support of environmental documents, and transportation management plans (TMPs). In addition, the candidate will also assist with traffic design work for plans, specification, and estimate (PS&E) packages such as signing/striping, traffic signal, stage construction, detour plans, and traffic handling plans.
Communications skills (verbal and written) and ability to work with remote teams are very important. Someone who is familiar with the Caltrans project development process, standard plans, standard specifications, directives, and policies and has Southern California experience on planning and design projects (as opposed to research) is particularly desirable. The candidate will be tasked to assist in mentoring and development of a growing junior traffic group as well as project workplan preparations and general staff management activities.
This opportunity entails being responsible for the production and modification of design calculations, technical reports, engineering plans and specifications for assigned projects. This position consults with the project manager to perform research, development, calculations, design and delivery. Applies engineering techniques, procedures and design criteria for complex and cross-discipline projects. Leverages technical knowledge and experience to address design related issues or concerns, working closely with the project manager through creative problem solving, interactions with clients and by completing tasks to meet the project schedule. Develops conceptual and detailed designs and calculations to support the project completion using current drawing and technical tools, programs and software. May mentor, train and review work of junior engineer staff and provide constructive feedback. As a member of the team, you will contribute to the successful project delivery for a diverse range of projects for HNTB’s clients.
