Job summary

Scarborough Health Network is seeking a Senior Technical Specialist for the ENHANCE Ontario Beaker Team. The role focuses on Epic Beaker workflows, maintenance, and enhancements to support CIS across member hospitals.

You will troubleshoot issues, test changes, and coordinate with clinical and IT stakeholders to ensure reliable operations. The position requires Epic experience with potential Beaker/ClinDoc/Orders certification, and a strong understanding of lab processes.

Qualifications

• Previous build or operations experience with Epic® required.
• Medical Laboratory Technologist experience strongly preferred.
• Epic certification in Beaker, ClinDoc, Orders preferred or must complete within 3 months of hire.
• Strong working knowledge of Sectra and/or lab process will be an asset.

Responsibilities

• Independently evaluate systems, analyze complex issues, troubleshoot, and test resolutions with application teams.
• Provide ongoing maintenance and support for assigned applications with little to no assistance.
• Lead testing of updates, enhancements, and new releases/quarterly upgrades.
• Support workflow design/optimization decisions with leadership and committees.
• Maintain training content with Principal Trainers and support end-users.

Enabling Healthcare Across Networks of Central East (ENHANCE) Ontario (also referred to here as “EO”) is a not-for-profit corporate entity which will provide centralized IT services to its seven (7) member hospitals (Campbellford Memorial Hospital, Haliburton Highlands Health Services, Lakeridge health, Northumberland Hills Hospital, Peterborough Regional Health Centre, Ross Memorial Hospital, and Scarborough Health Network) to manage and operate a set of shared digital assets. This will enable its 7 member hospitals across 14 sites to deliver high quality and safe patient care using the shared Epic Clinical Information System (“CIS”) to over 1.5 million patients residing in both rural and urban communities located in the Central East region of Ontario.

Position Overview

Epic Senior Technical Specialists are responsible for ongoing maintenance and operations of their assigned applications including triaging and prioritizing issues, troubleshooting, break-fixes, maintenance, system upgrades and enhancements and optimizations with a goal to continue to enable workflows that in the relevant clinical areas. This role will also act as a secondary support contact for the application’s end users.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for independently evaluating systems, analyzing complex issues and problems, troubleshooting, resolving break fixes and testing resolutions with application teams
• Provides ongoing maintenance and support for assigned applications with little to no assistance
• Participates and leads testing of application updates, enhancements, custom programming and new releases/quarterly upgrades
• Support operational committees and working groups with workflow design/optimization decision-making by highlighting system capabilities, limitations, risks etc.
• Work with Principal Trainers to maintain training materials and content in sync with build updates
• In collaboration with Principal Trainer, analysts will support application's end‑users
• Reviewing the status of projects and issues on an ongoing basis with leadership

Requirements

• Previous build or operations experience with Epic® required
• Medical Laboratory Technologist experience strongly preferred
• Epic certification in any of Beaker, ClinDoc, Orders preferred or must complete relevant certification within 3 months of hire
• Strong working knowledge of Sectra and/or lab process will be an asset
