Job description

Senior Technical Manager – Architectural Millwork
About this position

Are you the person everyone turns to when a difficult millwork project needs to be figured out?

We’re looking for an experienced architectural millwork professional to take on a senior technical leadership role within an established engineering department.

This is not a traditional management position focused primarily on budgets, schedules, and performance reviews. The focus is technical leadership, mentorship, constructability, engineering standards, and manufacturing excellence.

You’ll work with and mentor a team of approximately 20 engineers and detailers, helping improve how complex millwork projects are engineered before they reach production.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Mentor and develop engineers and detailers
  • Review complex shop drawings before release to manufacturing
  • Identify constructability and design issues before they become production problems
  • Review materials, hardware, joinery, dimensions, tolerances, and fabrication methods
  • Establish and improve engineering and drawing standards
  • Reduce manufacturing errors and costly rework
  • Work closely with Production, CNC, Manufacturing, Installation, and Project Management
  • Support value engineering and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Help improve communication between Engineering and Production
  • Lead the department’s transition to Microvellum and develop improved engineering workflows
What We’re Looking For

You may currently be working as a Senior Detailer, Engineering Lead, Technical Designer, Project Manager, Production Manager, Senior Cabinetmaker, or in another senior technical millwork position.

  • 10+ years of custom architectural millwork experience
  • Strong knowledge of millwork manufacturing and constructability
  • Experience producing or reviewing fabrication-ready shop drawings
  • Advanced AutoCAD skills
  • Experience solving complex detailing and production challenges
  • Experience mentoring engineers, detailers, or other technical professionals
  • Strong understanding of materials, hardware, joinery, tolerances, and fabrication methods
  • Microvellum experience is an asset; the ability and interest to lead its implementation is equally important
Who Will Excel in This Role?

Someone who doesn't simply identify a problem on a drawing—you understand why it happened and how to prevent it from happening again.

You enjoy sharing your knowledge, developing people, and improving engineering processes.

Most importantly, you understand that great millwork engineering isn't just about producing a good drawing. It's about producing accurate, constructible information that allows the project to be manufactured efficiently, installed successfully, and built right the first time.

Base salary: $85,000–$105,000, with flexibility for an exceptional candidate

Benefits
  • Permanent, full-time position
  • Senior technical leadership opportunity
  • Significant influence over engineering standards and processes
  • Opportunity to help shape the future of an expanding engineering department

If you've spent your career solving difficult architectural millwork problems and are ready to use that experience to develop people, improve engineering, and make an impact across an entire department, we'd like to hear from you.
