Duties

  • As a Senior Technical Expert, you will be a technical authority in your specified technical discipline within the National Aircraft Certification Branch. Reporting to the Chief, Technical Experts Division, duties include:
  • fostering bilateral relationships with foreign certification authorities and participating in international working groups;
  • identifying technical gaps within the organization in your discipline and strategically planning solutions;
  • supporting operational needs of the branch by providing policy and guidance interpretation and technical conflict resolution;
  • promoting knowledge sharing and formal publication of the Branch position on technical matters related to your discipline.

Intent of the process

The intent of this selection process is to staff two of the five specialized technical streams within the National Aircraft Certification Branch:

  • Electric and Hybrid Aircraft Technologies
  • Avionics and Autonomous Control Systems
  • Software, Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning, and Cybersecurity
  • Advanced Aircraft Systems and Integration
  • Advanced Aircraft Structures

Positions are on-site, with the possibility of a hybrid work arrangement, subject to operational requirements. A pool of qualified candidates may be established to fill up to three additional positions in the remaining technical streams at a later date.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following essential qualifications:

Education OR Occupational Certification

  • The minimum standard for positions classified as EN is one of Education or Occupational Certification.

When education is required, the minimum standard is: Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in an engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position.

When occupational certification is required, the minimum standard is: Eligibility for certification as a professional engineer in Canada with specialization in an engineering specialty relevant to the position.

Experience

EX1: Substantial and recent

  • engineering experience in the aeronautical field related to design, certification, testing, in-service product support, or continuing airworthiness of aeronautical products.

EX2: Experience presenting on technical engineering topics.

EX3: Experience in developing and maintaining consultative and collaborative working relationships with stakeholders including technical teams, consultants and/or contractors.

  • Substantial is defined as a minimum of 10 or more years of experience with progressively increasing responsibilities.
  • Recent experience is defined as at least 10 years within the last 15 years.

  • AEX2: Five or more years of engineering experience in the certification of civil aeronautical products.

Organizational needs

Due to national staffing controls, indeterminate Transport Canada employees who are qualified may be hired first until staffing controls are lifted. Delegated managers may assess all candidates or only TC employees.

  • Willing and able to travel via all modes of transportation to remote / isolated locations.
  • Willing and able to work in an aviation environment (noise, fumes, hazards).
