Job summary

Vaco by Highspring in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada, is seeking an experienced engineer with 6–8 years of hands-on experience in facility design, commissioning, operation or maintenance to provide technical evaluations, recommendations, and robust documentation across multiple work areas.

This role requires strong analytical skills, a safety mindset, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams in a regulated environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering.
  • 6–8 years in facility design, commissioning, operation or maintenance.
  • Strong background in industrial systems and equipment performance.
  • Experience in nuclear or highly regulated environments is an asset.
  • Excellent English communication, written and verbal.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical evaluations, advice, and solutions across multiple work areas.
  • Identify potential problems and opportunities, assess options, and recommend disposition.
  • Prepare submissions including cost justification, financial evaluation, and technical documentation.
  • Develop specifications, engineering calculations, installation, testing, and maintenance procedures.
  • Ensure proposals and installations meet intended design and operational requirements.
  • Deliver training, lectures, and field instruction to staff as needed.
  • Maintain awareness of operating and maintenance issues, implementing improvements where appropriate.
  • Collaborate with external organizations and vendors to arrange tests and provide documentation.
  • Keep abreast of new developments and incorporate them into equipment or operations.
  • Develop and update operating procedures consistent with safety, efficiency, and compliance standards.
  • Prepare reports, studies, and investigations to support improvements and provide historical data.
  • Review proposals from internal and external sources, recommending changes or adoption.
  • Support procurement activities, including specifications, requisitions, and installation oversight.
  • Recommend spare parts requirements and research programs to improve reliability and performance.
  • Contribute to departmental budget preparation and variance monitoring.
  • Periodically supervise staff, assigning and reviewing work, and providing guidance.

Location: Oshawa, Ontario, Canada (Onsite). Rotating shifts - 1st shift (6:30am-2:30pm), 2nd shift (2:30pm-10pm), 2-week rotation. Candidates must be able to work on Saturdays.

  • Strong background in industrial systems, equipment performance, and technical problem?solving.
  • Experience in nuclear or highly regulated industrial environments is an asset.
  • Proven ability to evaluate components, materials, and processes, and perform economic and technical studies.
  • Skilled in preparing clear, concise reports, recommendations, and technical documentation.
  • Strong communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with cross?functional teams and external organizations.
  • Experience supervising staff and providing technical guidance.
  • Commitment to safety, compliance, and continuous improvement in engineering practices.
Pay Range

$74.30 - $74.31/hr
