Overview

Earthscape Play designs, engineers, and builds custom playground structures and sculptures. Located just outside of Elmira, Ontario, our work environment is positive, productive, and fun. We design and deliver iconic destination spaces in partnership with leading landscape architecture firms in North America. This role is based in Wallenstein, ON (Hybrid) with a full-time permanent employment type. Compensation: $80,000 - $90,000 per year.

We are looking for a Senior Technical Designer to join our growing Engineering team. The role focuses on the technical design, detailing, and engineering of bespoke timber structures, ensuring they are aesthetically compelling and structurally sound. The position may evolve into a leadership role based on company needs and performance. Our playgrounds often extend beyond regular building code categories and require outside-the-box thinking.

The Role
  • Lead the accurate and well-documented technical design and engineering of custom timber projects, from initial concept through to final fabrication drawings
  • Collaborate with designers, project managers, and fabrication teams to preserve design intent while meeting technical requirements
  • Apply structural or mechanical principles to solve design challenges and optimize for manufacturing
  • Conduct design reviews and quality checks to ensure safety and quality standards
  • Break down complex problems into manageable components and propose multiple viable solutions
  • Develop new skills across all areas of playground design and construction
  • Manage project timelines and resources to meet deadlines
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to brainstorm ideas, analyze concepts, and present work
Qualifications
  • Postsecondary education in design, STEM, or related field is preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in design, manufacturing, or a custom-build environment
  • Advanced experience with SolidWorks or similar 3D modelling and detailing software
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to articulate complex technical information
  • Meticulous with a keen eye for detail and ability to identify and correct design errors
  • Enjoys building models, LEGO, or assembling furniture as a hobby
