Senior Technical Business Analyst – Application Modernization & DevOps

• Pay Rate: 71.50 - 85.00, depending on experience
• Contract Length: 6 months
• Location: Calgary, Alberta

Raise is currently hiring a Senior Technical Business Analyst – Application Modernization & DevOps on behalf of our client. This is an exciting opportunity to support application modernization and cloud migration initiatives, working at the intersection of application development, cloud engineering, and DevOps delivery teams. The successful candidate will help ensure applications can be successfully built, tested, released, and operated using modern engineering practices while maintaining existing functionality, quality, and performance.

Note: The primary pay rate is based on T4 classification; however, we will also consider applications from candidates interested in an INC classification, where applicable.

Description

The Senior Technical Business Analyst – Application Modernization & DevOps will serve as a key bridge between application teams, cloud engineering, and DevOps delivery teams throughout cloud migration and application modernization initiatives.

This role is focused primarily on technical delivery and application lifecycle modernization, rather than traditional business process redesign. The successful candidate will analyze application delivery workflows, support modern development and deployment practices, and help ensure applications are production-ready while preserving existing functionality and performance.

Responsibilities

• Application Modernization & Cloud Migration: Support application modernization and cloud migration initiatives by analyzing existing application delivery practices and identifying opportunities to adopt modern engineering and DevOps standards.
• CI/CD & Release Management: Support the design and implementation of build, test, and release processes, including CI/CD pipelines, deployment strategies, automated testing, and release management practices.
• Source Control & Repository Governance: Support branching and merging strategies, Git repository governance, source control standards, and development lifecycle practices.
• Technical Process Analysis: Document current-state and future-state application delivery processes and identify opportunities to improve development, testing, deployment, and operational workflows.
• Functional & Regression Validation: Coordinate functional validation and regression planning to ensure modernization activities maintain existing application functionality and business requirements.
• Production & Operational Readiness: Support application performance validation, production readiness reviews, deployment planning, and operational readiness activities.
• Cross-Functional Coordination: Facilitate collaboration between developers, testers, cloud engineering teams, DevOps teams, and product stakeholders to identify and resolve technical delivery issues.
• Documentation: Develop and maintain documentation related to deployment processes, application support, operational procedures, development standards, and lifecycle management.
• Stakeholder Management: Work closely with technical and business stakeholders to communicate requirements, facilitate discussions, resolve issues, and ensure alignment throughout modernization initiatives.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience as a Technical Business Analyst, Business Systems Analyst, Technical Analyst, Application Analyst, or similar role within software development, application modernization, or technology delivery environments.
• Strong understanding of software development lifecycles (SDLC) and Agile delivery practices.
• Hands-on experience or strong working knowledge of Azure DevOps, Git repositories, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and release management.
• Understanding of branching and merging strategies, source control governance, repository management, and deployment strategies.
• Experience documenting current-state and future-state application delivery processes and technical workflows.
• Experience supporting cloud migration and application lifecycle modernization initiatives.
• Ability to analyze technical workflows and identify modernization opportunities while maintaining existing application functionality and performance.
• Strong understanding of application build, test, release, deployment, and operational processes.
• Experience supporting quality assurance, functional validation, regression testing, performance validation, and production readiness activities.
• Strong stakeholder management and facilitation skills, with the ability to work effectively across technical and business teams.
• Excellent communication, analytical, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work effectively with developers, QA teams, cloud engineers, DevOps teams, and product stakeholders in a complex technology environment.

Education and certifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Professional certifications (such as CBAP, PMI-PBA, CSM, or CSPO) are considered a strong asset.
