Qualifications

  • 5 to 7 years of related tax experience at a managerial level working with public or private businesses.
  • Canadian In-Depth Tax Course or a Master of Tax, completed or in progress.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, technical skills, and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Complete and/or verify Canadian and US income tax and sales tax returns and any required ancillary filings.
  • Liaise with tax advisors in foreign jurisdictions to ensure tax-related obligations are met.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual tax provisions and ensure timely payments of taxes.
  • Track and respond to tax assessments and notices of assessment promptly.
  • Manage all tax audits and inquiries, and serve as the primary contact for regulatory/governmental agencies.
  • Draft transfer pricing documentation and coordinate with external consultants.
  • Research, interpret, and advise on changing tax legislation and related regulations.
  • Prepare US State property taxes and Commerce tax filings.
  • Review tax provisions and file local tax returns in various countries.
  • Assist with SR&ED/R&D tax incentives.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and tracking income taxes to optimize cash flow.
  • Lead tax planning and reorganization projects.
  • Provide high-quality, timely service to internal stakeholders.

Reporting to the CFO, the Senior Tax Associate's primary mandate is to assist with tax compliance, optimizing the legal entity structures, and other tax planning.

Job Duties

  • Complete and/or verify Canadian and US income tax and sales tax returns and any required ancillary filings.
  • Liaise with tax advisors in foreign jurisdictions (e.g., Macau, Singapore, Bahamas) to ensure all tax-related obligations are met.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual tax provisions and ensure timely payments of taxes.
  • Track and respond to tax assessments and notices of assessment promptly.
  • Manage all tax audits and inquiries, gather information, and serve as the primary contact for regulatory/governmental agencies and external advisory firms.
  • Draft transfer pricing documentation and coordinate with external consultants to prepare transfer pricing reports.
  • Research, interpret, and advise on the implications of changing tax legislation and related income and sales tax regulations/rules, presenting conclusions to the CFO and management team.
  • Prepare US State property taxes and Commerce tax filings.
  • Review tax provisions and file local tax returns in US, Taiwan, Macau, and Singapore on time.
  • Assist with SR&ED/R&D tax incentives, coordinating efforts with the business and external advisors.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, tracking, and monitoring income taxes to optimize cash flow.
  • Lead tax planning and reorganization projects, including research, coordination with advisors, and internal stakeholders.
  • Implement reorganization steps working with internal and external finance and legal teams.
  • Provide high-quality, timely service to internal stakeholders.
  • Perform other duties and project work as assigned.

Must Have

  • Ability to operate on strategic and operational levels.
  • 5 to 7 years of related tax experience at a managerial level working with public or private businesses.
  • Canadian In-Depth Tax Course or a Master of Tax, completed or in progress.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, technical skills, and attention to detail.
  • Strong team player with excellent collaboration skills.
