Job summary

Northland is seeking a Senior Tax Analyst to join the tax team in our Toronto office. This role supports tax accounting and compliance for Canadian and international entities, with exposure to IFRS tax reporting, domestic and foreign tax compliance, and OECD Pillar Two.

The successful candidate will collaborate with finance teams and external advisors in a dynamic multinational environment, working four days in the Toronto office and one flexible day remote.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Tax, Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • Completed or pursuing professional accounting designation.
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in tax accounting, compliance, or advisory.

Responsibilities

  • Support quarterly and annual tax accounting and compliance activities across jurisdictions.
  • Prepare Canadian and consolidated quarterly tax provisions and working papers under IFRS.
  • Assist with tax-related journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
  • Contribute to IFRS tax disclosures for statutory financial statements and group reporting.
  • Coordinate with local finance teams and external advisors for global tax compliance.
  • Assist with Canadian income tax returns, information returns, and reports.
  • Support OECD Pillar Two compliance, data collection, calculations, and documentation.
  • Contribute to tax advisory matters including reorganisations and financings.
  • Provide support for tax aspects of mergers & acquisitions and integration activities.

We are looking for a Senior Tax Analyst to join the tax team in our Toronto office to support the tax accounting and compliance processes for Northland's Canadian and international entities. This role offers broad exposure to IFRS tax reporting, domestic and foreign tax compliance, and OECD Pillar Two, while also providing the opportunity to contribute to M&A and other growth and strategic opportunities. The successful candidate will work closely with experienced tax professionals, finance teams, and external advisors in a dynamic multinational environment.

The role requires 4 days per week working from the Toronto office with one flexible day available to work from home.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support and coordinate quarterly tax accounting and tax compliance activities for entities across multiple jurisdictions
  • Prepare and / or oversee the preparation of the Canadian and consolidated quarterly tax provisions and working papers in accordance with IFRS
  • Assist with the preparation and review of tax‑related journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting documentation for quarterly, and annual closes
  • Contribute to the preparation of IFRS tax disclosures for statutory financial statements and group reporting
  • Coordinate with local finance teams and external tax advisors to support the global tax compliance process and timely preparation and filing of corporate income tax returns and other local tax filings
  • Contribute to the preparation and review of Canadian income tax returns, information returns and reports
  • Contribute to the preparation of Canadian surplus and FAPI calculations
  • Assist with the preparation and gathering of information for transfer pricing reporting and compliance
  • Support OECD Pillar Two (Global Minimum Tax) compliance, including data collection, analysis, calculations, and documentation
  • Assist with general tax advisory matters, including analysis of corporate reorganisations, refinancings, and business initiatives
  • Provide support, as needed, on tax aspects of mergers & acquisitions and investment/growth activities, including due diligence support, transaction analysis, and post‑acquisition integration activities
  • Support tax audits, reviews, and interactions with tax authorities
  • Maintain tax documentation and support adherence to internal controls, tax policies, and governance standards
  • Participate in and contribute to tax transformation initiatives, including process redesigns, data improvements, increased standardization, and the selective introduction of tax technology solutions
Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Tax, Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
  • Completed or pursuing professional accounting designation
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in tax accounting, compliance, or advisory, ideally within a professional services firm or multinational organization
  • A solid understanding of corporate income tax and IFRS tax principles (current and deferred tax)
  • Strong knowledge of basic computer applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) with interest in, or basic knowledge of, tax technology, data tools, or automation initiatives
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills, with a high level of attention to detail
  • A proactive and professional mindset, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Team player with strong communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with stakeholders across finance functions
