Job summary

GFT is seeking a Senior Systems Safety Engineer to join our Transportation Practice in Ontario, Alberta, or British Columbia. You will lead safety assurance for major rail transit projects and coordinate with RAM specialists to deliver robust safety cases and regulatory compliance.

In this role you will mentor engineers, interface with clients and regulators, and help shape safety management processes while supporting business development in a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of experience in system safety engineering.
• Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Canada is highly desirable.
• Strong knowledge of IEC 61508 and EN 50126 and RAM principles.

GFT is seeking a Senior Systems Safety Engineer to join our Practice or CBG Team out of either Ontario, Alberta, or British Colombia.

What You’ll Be Challenged To Do:

Under limited supervision, the Senior Safety Engineer independently leads safety assurance and safety certification activities for major rail transit projects. The individual serves as a technical authority on safety matters and provides leadership in hazard management, safety engineering, safety assurance, and regulatory compliance activities.

The Senior Safety Engineer should possess strong knowledge of safety engineering methodologies and a working understanding of RAM principles sufficient to coordinate integrated RAMS activities and interface effectively with RAM specialists.

• Lead project safety programs and safety assurance activities.
• Define project safety plans and safety management processes.
• Lead hazard identification, risk assessments, and hazard management processes.
• Lead preparation and review of Safety Cases and Safety Assurance Reports.
• Act as technical lead for safety certification programs.
• Establish safety requirements and acceptance criteria.
• Interface directly with clients, regulators, assessors, and project stakeholders.
• Lead contractor safety reviews and acceptance activities.
• Ensure integration of safety activities with systems engineering, integration, testing, and RAM programs.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership.
• Support business development and proposal activities.
• Serve as trusted advisor on safety matters for clients and project teams.

Education | Experience:

What You Will Bring To Our Firm:

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science, or related STEM discipline.
• Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Canada highly desirable.

What We Prefer You Bring:

• 15+ years of experience in system safety engineering.
• Experienced IEC 61508 and/or EN 50126 practitioner.
• Skilled at dissecting complex stakeholder needs and articulating an assurance case based on reasoned logic and well-rounded judgement.
• Experience leading the execution of safety management programmes, and supporting Independent Safety Assessments.
• Working knowledge of RAM principles and RAM analyses.
• Strong client-facing and stakeholder management skills.
• Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary technical teams.

Compensation:

The salary range for this position is $108,000.00 - $163,000.00. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
