Job summary

Ulteig Engineers, Inc. seeks a Senior Systems Integrator in Canada to lead design, integration and commissioning of complex electrical control systems focusing on PLC and HMI integration for renewable and industrial applications.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Advanced experience applying electrical and control systems concepts.
  • Advanced PLC programming and HMI design experience.
  • Experience designing/troubleshooting fiber optic networks.
  • Strong ability to read schematics and P&Cs.
  • Proven automation, integration, and system protection knowledge.
  • Excellent mentoring and communication skills.
  • Willing to travel 25-35% and eligible to work in Canada.

Responsibilities

  • Review schematics and diagrams, mentoring junior engineers.
  • Design and integrate PLC and HMI systems for renewable energy automation.
  • Integrate complex substation systems including protective relays and RTACs.
  • Lead testing and on-site field commissioning; troubleshoot to ensure performance.
  • Collaborate with internal/external stakeholders to ensure project success.
  • Stay compliant with industry standards and safety regulations including NERC CIP.
  • Share knowledge of new technologies and programming techniques.
  • Lead complex multidisciplinary projects.

Job description

The Senior Systems Integrator designs, develops, and commissions complex electrical control systems, with a focus on integrating PLC and HMI systems for efficient operation and communication. Senior systems integrators are responsible for maintaining project schedules and ensuring the quality of project deliverables. Mentoring and collaborating with engineering teams and members is essential to ensure system compatibility and enhance substation efficiency.

What You\'ll Do
  • Review electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and other project documentation, providing learning opportunities for junior team members.
  • Review, design and integrate PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) and HMI (Human Machine Interface) systems for renewable energy automation applications while providing learning opportunities for junior team members.
  • Perform and review the work for the integration of complex substation systems and devices, including protective relays, RTACs (Real-Time Automation Controllers), and communication networks.
  • Lead testing and mentor junior team members to troubleshoot electrical control systems to ensure proper functionality and performance.
  • Oversee and perform on-site field commissioning activities, such as system installation, device power up, and network troubleshooting.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure project success.
  • Assist others in obtaining up-to-date knowledge and ensure adherence to relevant industry standards and safety regulations, including NERC CIP.
  • Help others learn and understand new technologies and programming techniques.
  • Leading complex technical and multidisciplinary projects.
What We Expect from You
  • Bachelor\’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a closely related discipline; equivalent professional experience may be considered in place of a degree.
  • Advanced experience applying electrical systems, control systems, and automation concepts.
  • Advanced experience with PLC programming and HMI design. Efficiency in more than one programming language (Ladder Logic, Function Block Diagram, or Structured Text).
  • Advanced experience designing and/or troubleshooting fiber optic networks.
  • Advanced experience interpreting electrical schematics, including single-line diagrams and P&C drawings.
  • Advanced experience with HMI design, development, and commissioning.
  • Proven application of complex automation, integration, and system protection principles.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong ability to mentor others in a technical field.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Advanced experience with more than one PLC platform (e.g. Schneider Electric, SEL RTAC, Allen Bradley).
  • Advanced experience in Inductive Automation\'s Ignition platform.
  • Advanced understanding of common industrial communications protocols including ModbusTCP and/or DNP3.
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of 3-phase power generation control principles.
  • Advanced knowledge of implementing Automatic Voltage Regulation Schemes including setpoint, power factor, and voltage control.
  • Advanced ability to read, interpret, and implement Power Purchase Agreements and LGIAs and translate into control schemes.
  • Knowledge and understanding of voltage regulation concepts and ISO specific requirements.
  • Willing to travel 25-35\% of the time.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Must possess a valid Canadian Driver\’s License and ability to meet company driving standards.
  • Must have the ability to travel across the United States and Canada.
  • Demonstrates openness to innovation by embracing and applying evolving technology and AI tools to enhance workflows, solve problems, and drive continuous improvement.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced experience with SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems and related technologies.
  • Strong understanding and proven application of electrical schematics.
  • Strong understanding of cybersecurity in industrial control systems.

Additional Opportunity Details

Target Base Compensation Range for this role is $127,500 - $172,400 CAD
