Job summary

PerkinElmer in Woodbridge, ON, is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to design, develop and integrate GC/LC hardware, firmware and software. You will work with a cross-functional team of engineers and suppliers to deliver chromatographic systems across the product lifecycle.

The role requires a Master’s in analytical sciences and 5+ years in analytical hardware or related fields, with strong communication and lab experience. On-site in Woodbridge; some travel may be needed.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Analytical Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Chemical Physics, or Experimental Physics.
  • 5+ years of experience in analytical system hardware, firmware, software, or applications development.
  • Experience developing prototype chromatography-based instruments with specs and tests.
  • Troubleshooting scientific instrumentation, especially chromatography systems.
  • Ability to work with multi-disciplinary teams of scientists and engineers.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Able to work in a laboratory environment and handle hazardous chemicals.
  • Some travel may be required.

Job Title: Senior Systems Engineer (Woodbridge, ON)

Location(s): Canada, Woodbridge

In this role, the Systems Design Engineer will become an integral part of a team that will design, develop, and integrate complex hardware systems for every stage of PerkinElmer’s Gas Chromatography (GC) and Liquid Chromatography (LC) products lifecycle. Location: On site in Woodbridge, Canada

  • At Systems level, design, development and integration of GC and LC hardware, firmware, software, with an emphasis on GC systems.
  • Work closely with electronics, mechanical, firmware, and software design engineers to create integrated chromatography systems.
  • Work closely with supplier engineers on the design of specialized components of chromatography systems.
  • Assembly and testing of prototype chromatography systems and/or components.
  • Development of performance specifications and test procedures for chromatography-based instrument systems.
  • Support chromatography applications scientists and applications development.
  • Preparation of internal technical reports and documentation
  • Assist transfer to production of successful prototype/R&D pilot designs, including training and support of production engineers.
  • Development and maintenance of functional requirements for NPI projects

Basic Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Analytical Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Chemical Physics, or Experimental Physics (Ph.D. degree is preferred)
  • 5 or more years of experience in analytical system hardware, firmware, software, and/or applications development, with an emphasis on chromatography systems.
  • Demonstrated skill developing prototype chromatography-based instruments, including performance specifications and test procedures.
  • Demonstrated skill troubleshooting scientific instrumentation, with an emphasis on chromatography systems.
  • Demonstrated skill preparing internal technical reports and presentations.
  • Demonstrated ability to interface with a multi-disciplinary technical team of scientists, hardware engineers, and firmware/software engineers.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Must be able to work in a laboratory environment, including manipulating tools, instruments and components.
  • Must be able to handle hazardous chemicals and chemical waste as required, in keeping with all local safety regulations.
  • Documentation, writing, and report preparation will also be required.
  • Some travel might be required.

The annual compensation range for this full-time position is $80,000.00 to $100,000.00. The final base pay offered to the successful candidate will be determined by factors including internal equity, work location, as well as individual qualifications, such as job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
