Major Duties
- As a Senior Systems Engineer - Nuclear, you will lead technical problem-solving efforts, working with customers and internal teams to design solutions meeting customer requirements. You will act as a technical leader, understanding customer processes, defining system requirements, and guiding design teams from concept to launch, managing technical risks and driving quality, cost, and delivery improvements.
Specific Responsibilities
Subject Matter Expertise
- Learn customer processes and become the local expert to support design, fabrication, integration, testing, and commissioning of systems.
- Conduct component and system analyses to verify structural integrity, functional requirements, design conditions, and compliance with standards.
- Prepare and review technical documents such as FMEAs, safety assessments, operating manuals, and test plans.
Requirements Definition and Verification
- Ensure design requirements are well-documented and compliant with industry standards.
- Coordinate vendor specifications and interface with third-party equipment vendors, including acceptance testing.
- Plan and execute verification activities, including analysis, testing, and acceptance testing with customers.
Project Technical Leadership
- Lead design planning, reviews, and risk mitigation strategies throughout the project lifecycle.
- Manage third-party vendors to ensure compliance with requirements, budget, and schedule.
Additional Responsibilities
- Communicate resource and time estimates, ensure compliance with standards, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Mentor junior staff and develop design concepts for quotes.
- Support construction and maintenance of pressure boundary components per CSA standards.
- Work as a Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW) in radioactive environments as required.
Qualifications
Education
- Post-secondary degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Systems Design, Electrical, or related engineering fields. P.Eng. preferred.
Experience
- 10+ years in engineering design of machinery or systems; 5+ years in nuclear tooling and equipment development, including field support.
- Strong understanding of machine design, controls, and problem solving.
