Job summary

MatchBox is seeking a Senior Systems Administrator to support a primarily Windows on-premise/hybrid infrastructure with Azure services such as SharePoint Online and Teams. The role is a full-time permanent position with a 50% hybrid work arrangement in New Westminster, BC.

On-call duties rotate every seven weeks, with paid on-call hours. You will join a team of seven infrastructure professionals responsible for core services underpinning operations across multiple sites.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2-year diploma in an IT-related field or a Computer Science degree.
• 7+ years of progressive IT infrastructure experience.
• Experience delivering infrastructure projects in addition to day-to-day operations.
• Desire and ability to learn, apply knowledge and drive results.

Responsibilities

• Lead and deliver core infrastructure projects across on-premises and hybrid environments.
• Provide operational support for Windows servers, virtualization, and storage.
• Participate in on-call rotation (shared, every 7 weeks).
• Assist in migration activities to Exchange Online and cloud services.

Job description

Our client is looking for a Senior Systems Administrator to provide project and operational support in a primarily Windows on-premise/hybrid environment (with some services delivered via Azure, such as SharePoint Online, Teams, Entra).

This is a full-time permanent position. 50% Hybrid in New West, BC. The position requires: on-call (shared rotation), once every 7 weeks, there will be one week you are on-call, on-call hours will be paid.

The successful candidate will be part of a team of 7 (systems and network admins and analysts) responsible for core infrastructure services underpinning the organization's operations.

Technical Environment Includes

• * Virtualization: VMware v.8.x today, most likely transitioning to Hyper-V in 2027.
• * SAN administration (we use Pure Storage - Active/Active clustered environment across 2 data centers)
• * Windows Server: mix of legacy (2008/2012) and but most of our servers are running 2016/2019/2022/2025. We're working to eliminate the legacy OS's---but it takes time and resources beyond just my team.
• * File/print services, certificate services, DNS/DHCP
• * Using Batch Patch for automated patch delivery to servers, SCCM is for managing end points (desktops/laptops) and Intune for mobile devices (mostly iphones/ipads).
• * Windows 10/11 desktop environment, standardizing on Windows 11 and we're needing to do our city-wide upgrade soon
• * Lenovo desktop/laptop fleet (we have more laptops now than desktops)
• * Some Citrix / VDI for the library + some other unique systems that you'd only see used in libraries such as print management systems, PC reservation systems for public PC use)
• * Exchange 2016 on-premise, targeted migration to Exchange Online by year-end (yeah, we know we're behind...this is why we need more help!). It's always good to have a sysadmin with some exchange experience.
• * Mail security - using Mimecast
• * Multi-site, large-scale environment - most sites connected via City owned/managed fiber.

Required Education & Experience

• * Minimum 2-year diploma in an IT-related field, or a Computer Science degree from an accredited post-secondary institution
• * 7+ years of progressive IT infrastructure experience
• * Demonstrated experience delivering infrastructure projects, not just day-to-day operations—this role focuses more on project delivery but everyone has to deal with operational issues when they arise.
• * Broad exposure to Windows server/desktop administration is preferred, but deep expertise in every specific technology listed above is not a hard requirement—what's more important is you have that desire and passion to learn, apply your knowledge and help us achieve the desired results.
• * Scripting experiences (Powershell)
• * Network experience/exposure/knowledge
