Qualifications

  • Identify and analyze customer and product requirements for IXL architectures.
  • Define project solutions by selecting components and producing documentation.

Imagine playing a central role in reducing the carbon footprint of Canada's busiest public transit system and doing so with a globally ranked Top Employer. As part of the ONxpress consortium, Alstom is working to transform collective mobility in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton areas (GTHA) through the On-Corridor Works project, hiring for hundreds of roles. The scope includes new electric locomotives, train control systems, network electrification, signalling, telecommunications, and digital systems.

Purpose:
  • The Interlocking (IXL) system comprises Mechanical, Electromechanical, Electric, Electronic, and Software components to ensure safe train movements.
  • The job involves identifying and analyzing customer and product requirements to define and design standardized IXL architectures (functional, physical, operational) and configurations suitable for tenders, prototyping, series production, and deployment.
  • The IXL System Designer participates in project deployment, addressing issues or needs during the lifecycle, ensuring proper verification and continuous improvement.
Key accountabilities:
  • Work with Project IXL leads, PrEM, and project teams to:
    • Capture customer requirements and system interfaces
    • Assess yard layout complexities and environmental conditions
    • Identify trackside equipment and application conditions
    • Determine migration needs for brown-field projects
    • Evaluate space and work method constraints for pre-fitted configurations
    • Define product functional features and capabilities
  • Define the project solution by selecting components from Alstom's range, designing the physical solution, and producing assembly/testing documentation.
  • Support installation and testing teams during project deployment, incorporating lessons learned for continuous improvement.
  • Share knowledge of the IXL system features with the engineering community and represent Alstom to customers.
  • Manage subcontractors and work packages related to IXL architecture development.
Educational requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronic, Automation Engineering or related fields
  • P. Eng certification or in progress
  • Experience in system design & integration, or as Project IXL Design leader or signaling product designer
  • Knowledge of IXL Systems, CBTC, safety principles, and power supply
  • 5-10 years in complex, normative environments (railway signaling, aerospace, defense)
Desirable:
  • Knowledge of IXL Alstom products and application design
  • Over 10 years in relevant roles in complex environments
  • Ontario P.Eng or in progress
