Job summary

Stantec Consulting International Ltd. in Ottawa, Ontario, is seeking a Senior Survey Crew Chief to lead field crews and oversee geomatics projects across regional roads and sites. The role emphasizes safety, accuracy, and collaboration with engineers and clients.

Qualifications

  • University degree or college diploma in Geomatics, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline
  • Experience managing a field crew of 1-3 individuals
  • Advanced drone operator license preferred
  • Minimum 10 years' experience in land surveying
  • Experience with Trimble survey equipment and RTK GPS
  • Experience with Leica 3D LiDAR scanning
  • Ability to read engineering drawings
  • Experience with subsurface utility locating equipment is an asset
  • Valid driver's license
  • Experience with QA processes and documentation

Responsibilities

Your Opportunity

Our Ottawa, ON office is accepting applications for the prospective opportunity of Senior Survey Crew Chief. This position will report to the Geomatics Team Lead.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Mentoring of junior field staff to ensure industry best practices are observed in the field and office

  • Adhere to and promote adherence to Stantec safety policies

  • Design and implement traffic control plans as pertains to land surveying on regional roadways, highways & freeways

  • Perform field surveys in all weather conditions

  • Perform legal, topographic, engineering surveying

  • Perform legal field calculation

  • Use GPS RTK and total stations survey equipment and their respective data collection systems to perform topographical surveys

  • Complete terrestrial 3D LiDAR (3DLS) surveys of complex industrial facilities

  • Locate and designate subsurface utilities

  • Utilize unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) to capture data using aerial LiDAR and photogrammetry

  • Work in off road rugged terrain, urban and rural conditions

  • Work out of town in remote locations throughout Ontario & Eastern Canada

  • Research survey records and land titles to obtain information about property boundaries and areas to be surveyed and coordinates findings with the work of engineers, clients and others involved in projects

  • Responsible for safe operation and maintenance of vehicles, tools, and equipment

  • Verify the accuracy of field survey data, including measurements and calculations conducted at survey sites

  • Perform other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned

Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Experienced with Trimble survey equipment including: levels, RTK GPS, 3D LiDAR scanners and robotic total stations

  • Experience with Leica 3D LiDAR scanning equipment

  • Holder of an advanced UAV license with 100+ hours of flight time preferred

  • Experience in equipment calibration & routine maintenance

  • Experience with MTO surveying standards is an asset, with OTM Book 7 certification and demonstrable experience surveying along roadways

  • Thorough understanding of Quality Assurance processes and documentation using Trimble Business Center

  • Ability to read and understand engineering design drawings

  • Experience with surveying in the oil & gas industry is an asset

  • Experience with subsurface utility locating equipment & methodology an asset

  • Valid drivers license

Education and Experience

Pay Range:

Locations in Lower Mainland - BC, GTA & Ottawa Ontario-$77,500.00 - $112,400.00 Annually

Pay Transparency:

In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
