Job description

As a Senior Surety Broker, or Surety Client Executive, you will specialize in marketing Surety accounts and managing key client relationships, with a focus on the mining and construction industries. You will work closely with clients to structure and secure reclamation bonds, performance bonds, and other types of Surety instruments.

This role requires a strong focus on client service, including the development and stewardship of long-term relationships built on trust, expertise, and consistent delivery. You will serve as a strategic advisor to your clients, helping them navigate complex bonding requirements and achieve their project and compliance goals.

Role Description

Accountabilities:

  • Market Surety Accounts including Mining and Contractor business, including reclamation bonds;
  • Conduct research and financial analysis on client portfolios, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations;
  • Lead and mentor junior brokers, providing guidance and support;
  • Identify prospective clients and target industries through strategic research;
  • Analyze financial information, assess credit requests for both public and private enterprises;
  • Prepare and present detailed findings reports to clients, prospects and management;
  • Provide oversight and management of monthly reporting to insurance captives;
  • Build solid relationships with clients, underwriters, and professional counterparts;
  • Develop tailored Surety solutions for clients by assessing their operational risks, providing market-leading service, and offering strategic recommendations to improve their financial standing for bond approvals;
  • Monitor evolving regulatory requirements in the mining and construction industries to advise clients on bond compliance and any changes that may affect their obligations;
  • Assist with renewal coordination, monitoring receivables;
  • Coordinate with underwriters and legal teams to ensure the proper structuring of bonds, contracts, and indemnity agreements, ensuring clients receive optimal coverage.

The ideal candidate meets the following requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or related field;
  • 1-5 years of relevant experience in Surety Bonds, particularly within the mining and construction sectors;
  • Strong financial acumen, with proficiency in Excel and experience analyzing financial statements;
  • Valid Registered Insurance Brokers of Ontario (RIBO) License, or willingness to obtain;
  • Proven experience working with reclamation bonds or other performance bonds in heavily regulated industries such as mining, construction, or environmental services;
  • Familiarity with credit risk assessment and understanding of financial underwriting;
  • Detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines;
  • Excellent communications skill, both written and oral;
  • Team leadership and mentoring experience.
