We are currently accepting resumes for one (1) full-time temporary position: Senior Support Worker in our group homes in Barrie. This role provides supportive services to meet the needs of individuals in accordance with Empower Simcoe policies, procedures, legislative requirements, and the Personal Outcomes philosophy. The Senior Support Worker offers leadership and direction to staff by assigning and prioritizing duties in consultation with the Supervisor. The position works up to 37.5 hours per week and is a six (6) month contract.

Compensation Package:

  • Additional hours may be available with a minimum pay rate of $29.17/hour;
  • 11 paid statutory holidays;
  • Confidential Employee Assistance Program for employees and their immediate families.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Developmental Service Worker Diploma or an acceptable educational equivalent (e.g., Child and Youth Worker, Early Childhood Education, Social Service Worker, Nursing, Psychology);
  • Applicants with a degree or diploma from an unrelated field must have at least 2 years of full-time work experience supporting individuals;

  • Minimum one-year recent full-time experience supporting persons with intellectual disabilities in a group living setting;
  • Valid Class G driver’s license and reliable transportation;
  • Current certificates in First Aid, CPR, NVCI, and medication dispensing or a recognized pharmacology course;
  • Strong leadership, conflict resolution, communication, listening, and interpersonal skills;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook);
  • Understanding of the agency’s principles and ability to support individuals in meeting their personal outcomes;
  • Availability to work evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Role / Duties:

  • Lead support staff and act as the primary support person for residents, using a Personal Outcome Measures approach;
  • Support individuals in developing and achieving personalized goals through the Individual Support Planning process;
  • Complete all documentation accurately and promptly;
  • Provide guidance and direct support in daily living activities, personal care, communication, health, safety, finances, and relationship development to foster independence;
  • Assess and plan for changing support needs and make referrals to community resources;
  • Encourage and support community participation and exercise of citizenship rights;
  • Connect individuals to community resources and programs based on their interests.
