Job description

BGC Jane and Finch Club serves children and youth in the Jane and Finch and surrounding communities providing social, physical, educational, creative, seasonal, and community support programs. Your role as a Summer Camp Mentor will be to provide a safe and supportive environment for the program participants. This program is designed for children 6-12 years of age. Program components include education, recreation, social activities, sports, health and nutrition, mentoring, and the arts.

Location: Grandravine Clubhouse- 300 Grandravine Drive Unit 176A and another location might be added.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, organize, and lead a group of children in a group setting.
  • Ensure that you are creating a safe and enjoyable environment for participants.
  • Create and facilitate fun, creative, and inclusive activities for all participants.
  • Ensure that all equipment and supplies are in safe working condition.
  • Complete appropriate administrative tasks in a timely manner (i.e. attendance and head counts).
  • Develop and plan programs that meet the interests of children and/or youth between the ages of 5 and 12 years.
  • Ensure programs are safe, age/developmentally-appropriate, non-competitive, inclusive, innovative, and skill-based in nature.
  • Help to ensure the safety and security of the members and assist in responding to critical incidents as outlined in the Club’s policies and procedures.
  • Participate in staff training and orientation sessions.
  • Ensure the safety and supervision of participants at all times by strictly following guidelines and procedures (i.e. head counts).
  • Deal with conflicts and behavior management immediately using corrective techniques as discussed in training.
  • Report to and take direction from Program Manager and Supervisors.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned.
  • Maintain professional relationships with peers, members, volunteers, parents, and other Club members.
  • Attend regularly scheduled meetings.
  • Arrive no later than 15 minutes prior to scheduled shift.

Qualifications:

  • Educational background applicable to the position.
  • Must meet all "Canada Summer Jobs" requirements including:
    • Be between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment.
    • Be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and
    • Be legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations. (International students are not eligible. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens or permanent residents.)
  • Experience working with children 6 to 12 years old.
  • Strong skills in one or more of the following areas: sports, arts, swimming, recreation, education, health, and nutrition.
  • Strong supervision and program planning skills.
  • Good decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Current First Aid and CPR training (mandatory).
  • Police Reference Check completed within last 6 months (mandatory to obtain prior to start date).
  • HIGH FIVE: Principles of Healthy Child Development training (asset, mandatory).

Contract Period: June 30, 2025 – August 15, 2025.

*Must attend mandatory training from June 30 to July 4, 2025.

Hours: 35-37.5 per week Monday to Friday looking for individuals available 5 days a week (mandatory).
