Job summary
Stantec is seeking a Protection & Control Electrical Technician in Laval, QC to design protection and control systems for medium- and high-voltage substations. You will work with engineers, project managers, and clients to deliver reliable protection solutions across project phases.
The role requires a College Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology and at least 5 years in protection/controls, with strong knowledge of HV/MV substations, IEC 61850, DNP3, and Modbus.
Qualifications
- College diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology or equivalent.
- Minimum 5 years in protection & control design for electrical utility projects.
- Strong HV/MV substation protection experience.
- Knowledge of IEC 61850, DNP3, Modbus, and Ethernet-based systems.
- Ability to mentor junior technicians and lead multidisciplinary teams.
Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed electrical drawings and schematics for protection systems.
- Design relay protection and control schemes for substations.
- Coordinate interfaces between protection, switchgear, and networks.
- Review vendor drawings and support field commissioning.
- Participate in design reviews and hazard assessments.
- Provide technical support during installation and energization.
