Job summary

TEEMA invites a Senior Structural Engineer in Vancouver, BC, to apply their expertise in design, analysis, and field support for medium complexity projects. You will ensure safety, quality, and timely delivery while coordinating with contractors and officials and maintaining EGBC compliance.

The role requires 8+ years’ Canadian structural experience, BC codes familiarity, and professional practice knowledge. A 12-month contract with potential extension offers competitive hourly compensation.

Qualifications

  • Experience with construction staging, temporary works and constructability reviews.
  • Experience with S-Frame, SAP2000, STAAD and common software.
  • Mid-level MS Office skills (Word/Excel/Outlook/PowerPoint).
  • Bachelor’s in civil/structural engineering; Canada recognition.
  • P.Eng. registered in good standing with EGBC.

Job Title: Senior Structural Engineer

Overview:

The E4 – Engineer is a professional engineer or geoscientist who applies engineering knowledge to provide engineering, estimating, planning, and quality management services for medium complexity projects and/or operations safely, with quality, within budget, and on time.

What you will be doing:
  • Develop safe engineering solutions by using initiative and judgement to perform tasks including developing designs, analyzing and resolving problems, and interpreting engineering specifications on medium complexity and scope assignments for company projects and operations.

  • Assist project or operations management to meet safety, cost, quality, and time objectives by proposing changes in plans and estimated costs, recommending payment for work completed by contractors, preparing progress reports, coordinating work schedules and other similar tasks.

  • Resolve highly technical and unusual design and field engineering problems by conducting independent studies and analysis, exercising independent judgment in selecting and interpreting information, recommending safe engineering designs to support successful operations and/or project completion at the company.

  • Participate in the company’s engineering practice by conducting independent studies and analysis, contributing to the development of technical standards, exercising judgment in selecting and interpreting information, recommending safe engineering designs, and making decisions related to methods and designs as well as providing guidance and advice to other engineering professionals to develop future capability at the company.

  • Prior to commencement on assignment, the selected candidate must have their own sole practitioner, or the use of their firm’s, Permit to Practice with EGBC.

  • EGBC Registrants provided to the companythrough this assignment shall work under the companys Professional Practice Management Plan, Quality Management Pillar. The Registrant shall apply their own or their firm’s Permit to Practice Number to work that is Sealed by the Registrant. Retention and preservation of all project documentation produced by the Registrant during their contract with the companywill be retained byto satisfy EGBC Bylaws.

What you must have:
  • Minimum 8 years of structural engineering experience in Canada.

  • Collaborates well working in a multi-discipline team.

  • Strong verbal and written English communication skills, with demonstrated report writing skills.

  • Can engage effectively with contractors and officials in a professional manner

  • Demonstrated experience in structural assessment, design, rehabilitation, and construction activity support.

  • Demonstrated expertise in the design of reinforced concrete, structural steel, and timber structures, with a strong working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and engineering practices.

  • Thorough working knowledge of common industry construction practicesin British Columbia.

  • Thorough understanding of safety in the field / thorough understanding of environmental effects and impacts of existing conditions, construction activities, and permanent installations

  • Familiar with codes and design requirements of Authorities Having Jurisdictionand the permitting process.

  • Demonstrated understanding of EGBC professional practice requirements, including quality management, document control, engineering checks and reviews, records management, and retention of engineering documentation.

  • Ability to serve as Professional of Record (PoR), assess field conditions and develop practical engineering solutions to support project delivery.

  • Working experience with construction staging, temporary works, excavation support systems, and constructability reviews.

  • Working experience with structural analysis software such as S-Frame, SAP2000, STAAD, and common industry software.

  • Intermediate MS Office skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and PowerPoint)and common office environment software.

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil/structural Engineering by recognized universitiesin Canada.

  • Registered P.Eng. (Civil/Structural) in good standing with EGBC.

  • Prior to commencement on assignment, the selected candidate must have their own sole practitioner, or the use of their firm’s, Permit to Practice with EGBC.

  • The candidate shall work under BC Hydro’s Professional Practice Management Plan, Quality Management Pillar. The Registrant shall apply their own or their firm’s Permit to Practice Number to work that is Sealed by the Registrant. Retention and preservation of all project documentation produced by the Registrant during their contract with BC Hydro will be retained by BC Hydro to satisfy EGBC Bylaws.

  • Current confined space entry training and fall arrest training (successful candidate may acquire within 1 month of start of work for BC Hydro).

  • PSSP 2, 3, and DBC(can be provided by BCH).

Salary/Rate Range

$77.00 -$95.00 per hour
