Job summary

AECOM’s Buildings + Places team in Burnaby is seeking a Structural Engineer to support the delivery of high-impact building and infrastructure projects across Western Canada. This newly created role offers the chance to work alongside senior leaders and develop technical and leadership capabilities within a collaborative multidisciplinary environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering with 4 years of related experience.
  • P.Eng. in good standing with EGBC or eligible for registration.
  • Experience supporting building and infrastructure projects and knowledge of Canadian codes.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s licence.

Responsibilities

  • Support structural design and delivery from planning through construction.
  • Perform structural analysis using steel, concrete, timber, and masonry.
  • Prepare calculations, technical reports, specifications, and design documentation.
  • Coordinate with architects, project managers, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Participate in site reviews, structural assessments, investigations, and construction support services.
  • Assist with proposals, fee estimates, and business development activities.
  • Support quality reviews and the application of AECOM’s technical standards and best practices.
  • Work closely with senior engineers and project managers to develop technical and project leadership capabilities.

AECOM’s Buildings + Places team in Burnaby is seeking a Structural Engineer to support the delivery of high-impact building and infrastructure projects across Western Canada. This is a newly created position.

This role offers the opportunity to work alongside experienced structural leaders on a diverse portfolio of projects while developing technical expertise, project delivery capabilities, and leadership skills within a collaborative multidisciplinary environment.

What You’ll Do
  • Support the structural design and delivery of building and infrastructure projects from planning through construction.
  • Perform structural analysis and design using steel, concrete, timber, and masonry systems.
  • Prepare engineering calculations, technical reports, specifications, and design documentation.
  • Coordinate with architects, project managers, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Participate in site reviews, structural assessments, investigations, and construction support services.
  • Assist with proposals, fee estimates, and business development activities.
  • Support quality reviews and the application of AECOM’s technical standards and best practices.
  • Work closely with senior engineers and project managers to develop technical and project leadership capabilities.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering + four (4) years of relevant experience.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in good standing with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC), or eligible for registration.
  • Experience supporting building and infrastructure projects.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian structural codes and standards.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s licence.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 2+ years of structural engineering experience in British Columbia.
  • 5+ years of structural engineering experience.
  • Experience delivering transit, municipal, industrial, institutional, commercial, or public‑sector projects.
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary design teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated initiative, problem-solving abilities, and commitment to technical excellence.
  • Proficiency with ETABS, SAP2000, SAFE, STAAD Pro, or equivalent structural analysis and design software.
  • Eligibility for Government of Canada security clearance.
Additional Information
  • Relocation is not available for this position.
  • Security clearance may be required on a project‑specific basis. This may include Public Services and Procurement Services Canada, RCMP, or other agencies.
  • Sponsorship for Canadian employment authorization is not available for this position.

Offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The range for this position is $105000 to $130000.
