Job summary

Advanced Engineering Group Inc. (AEGI) in Edmonton, Alberta, seeks a Senior Structural Engineer to lead design and field-works for commercial, industrial, and oil & gas projects.

You will manage drawings, calculations, reviews, RFIs, site visits, and coordination with disciplines, while mentoring junior engineers and delivering projects on time.

The role is part-time/contract, with potential remote work arrangements; Alberta P.Eng. is preferred or eligible.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years of structural engineering experience.
  • P.Eng. registered in Alberta, or eligible for registration with APEGA.
  • Strong experience with commercial and industrial buildings.
  • Oil & gas industry experience is an asset.
  • Experience with new construction, renovations, and modifications.
  • Experience designing/Reviewing steel, concrete, wood, and foundations.
  • Experience with pipe racks, equipment supports, platforms, and mezzanines.
  • Ability to review drawings, calculations, specs, and reports.
  • Review shop drawings and respond to RFIs from contractors.
  • Site visits and structural inspections; multi-project management.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct site visits and structural inspections when required.
  • Coordinate structural work with architectural, mechanical, electrical, civil, and process disciplines.
  • Communicate directly with clients, contractors, and project teams.
  • Assist with project planning, budgeting, and technical proposals.
  • Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and technologists.

Advanced Engineering Group Inc. (AEGI) is looking for an experienced Senior Structural Engineer to join our team in Edmonton, Alberta. We are looking for a professional with strong experience in commercial, industrial, and oil & gas projects. The successful candidate should be able to work independently, communicate with clients and contractors, and take responsibility for structural engineering work from design through construction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform structural analysis and design for commercial, industrial, and oil & gas facilities.
  • Design and review structural steel, concrete, foundations, equipment supports, platforms, pipe racks, and other industrial structures.
  • Review existing structures and provide recommendations for repairs, modifications, or upgrades.
  • Prepare, review, and stamp structural drawings and engineering documents.
  • Review shop drawings and contractor submittals.
  • Answer RFIs and provide engineering support during construction.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Experience with industrial structures such as pipe racks, equipment supports, platforms, access structures, mezzanines, skids, and structural modifications.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing structural drawings, calculations, specifications, and engineering reports.
  • Ability to review shop drawings and respond to RFIs and contractor questions.
  • Experience conducting structural site reviews and inspections.
  • Good knowledge of the National Building Code of Canada and applicable Alberta codes and standards.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Experience working with architects, contractors, owners, and other engineering disciplines.
