Job summary

Design Works Engineering is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer (P.Eng.) in Edmonton to lead structural design on multifamily, commercial and institutional projects across Canada. This on-site, full-time role reports to the Director of Structural and collaborates with in-house mechanical, electrical, civil and fire protection engineers.

You will act as engineer of record, stamp calculations, mentor junior engineers and help win work through proposals and client meetings, while ensuring

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering.
• P.Eng. with APEGA, in good standing.
• 7+ years of structural design experience on buildings.
• Design experience in wood, steel and concrete.
• Proficiency in RISA-3D, ETABS and SAFE (or similar), plus AutoCAD.
• Strong working knowledge of the Alberta Building Code and CSA design standards.
• Clear written and spoken English — you'll write reports and present to clients.

Responsibilities

• Solve the harder problems — lateral systems, transfer structures and mixed wood, steel and concrete buildings.
• Review and stamp calculations and drawings prepared by intermediate and junior engineers.

• Be the structural lead for your clients — in meetings, in presentations and on site.
• Support construction — shop drawings, RFIs, site reviews and field issues.
• Mentor engineers and technologists, and help build our structural standards.
• Help win work — proposals, fee estimates and client relationships.

Why this role

We're growing our structural team in Edmonton. You'll lead structural design on multi-family residential, commercial and institutional buildings, act as engineer of record, and work alongside our own mechanical, electrical, civil and fire protection engineers, so coordination happens inside one firm.

What you'll do

Lead the structural design as engineer of record — concept, analysis, drawings, specifications and construction support.

What you bring

Must-haves

Bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering.

P.Eng. with APEGA, in good standing.

7+ years of structural design experience on buildings.

Design experience in wood, steel and concrete.

Proficiency in RISA-3D, ETABS and SAFE (or similar), plus AutoCAD.

Clear written and spoken English — you'll write reports and present to clients.

Nice to have

Experience leading a team or mentoring junior engineers.

Mass timber or post-tensioned concrete experience.

Registration in other provinces (EGBC, PEO, APEGS or others).
