Morrison Hershfield’s Horizontal Infrastructure (HI) Business Unit has contributed to some of Canada's most notable infrastructure projects. Our group ensures a positive customer experience across Canada, from project inception through design development to construction completion. Comprising engineers, technicians, and support staff from diverse backgrounds, our national HI team is known for delivering excellent technical work and customer service, earning a strong reputation for successful multidisciplinary infrastructure projects in Canada.
Responsibilities :
- Act as project manager, structural lead, and designer for engineering assignments.
- Responsible for transportation structural inspection assignments and supervising engineer on biennial (OSIM) inspections.
- Attend site visits for pre-design data collection, construction, and post-construction reviews.
- Lead and conduct inspections of bridges, culverts, and transportation structures following the Ontario Structure Inspection Manual (OSIM), Ontario Health and Safety Act (OHSA), and other standards.
- Coordinate work with clients and other disciplines, including highway/road, electrical, drainage, and environmental planning.
- Analyze and evaluate design solutions for transportation structures such as bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and foundations.
- Provide guidance to project team members through verbal and written instructions.
- Oversee CAD team for drawing preparation and review deliverables before client submission.
- Prepare and review technical reports, tender documents, and cost estimates.
- Offer recommendations and costings for maintenance, repair, and rehabilitation of bridges, culverts, and retaining walls.
- Participate in tender evaluations and provide construction engineering services.
- Engage in business development activities, including client liaison and proposal writing.
- Attend and contribute to team progress meetings.
- Be available for flexible hours, including nights and weekends, and be prepared to travel as needed.
- Complete daily health and safety documentation.
- Regularly review transportation projects to ensure they stay within budget, schedule, and risk parameters.
- Manage projects according to schedules and budgets.
Qualifications :
- BASc or B.Eng. in civil/structural engineering with a strong interest and experience in bridge engineering.
- P. Eng. status with over 10 years of experience leading biennial inspections and large transportation projects.
- RAQS eligibility for bridge inspections.
- Attendance at the 2021 MTO Inspectors workshop.
- Experience as supervising engineer on OSIM inspections and fatigue inspections.
- Proven skills in proposal and report writing, and asset management.
- Experience in project management and analyzing, rehabilitating, and designing bridges and culverts.
- Interest in working both in-office and in-field environments, with physical capability for outdoor bridge inspections.
- Valid Ontario Driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
- Strong computer skills, including bridge inspection and asset management software (SAP2000, CSiBridge, SFRAME).
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
- Ability to work effectively in teams and lead multidisciplinary projects.
- Interest and experience in business development and proposal preparation.
- Proven mentorship and staff supervision skills.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to work independently.
