Job Description

An exciting full-time opportunity as a Sr. Strategic Human Resources Business Partner (SHRBP) exists in the Human Resources Department reporting to the Manager, Human Resources.

Using our Corporate Strategic Plan and People Strategy as a roadmap, the Sr. SHRBP will act as a change catalyst applying their breadth of HR skills and knowledge to partner with client groups. They will provide leadership, support, and strategic business thinking in clinical and non-clinical settings. The incumbent will collaborate with a variety of stakeholders to develop and implement creative solutions aligned with the Hospital's mission, vision and strategic direction in support of the overall goal of transforming healthcare and co-creating best health possible through innovative care, research, policy, education and system solutions. In addition, the incumbent will provide strategic consultation to leadership on talent management, total rewards employment and labour relations, workforce planning, engagement, and operational excellence.

What You’ll Do :

  • Develops, implements and analyzes trends through reports and metrics to provide realistic solutions to business challenges and enhance awareness of HR best practices and emerging issues
  • Manages and develops internal communications plans and programs to increase employee engagement, as well as to help employees understand their role in supporting the Hospital's values, culture and objectives
  • Leads and / or participates in the execution of various components of the HR Strategy to enhance service delivery within the organization
  • Works with clients on forecasted needs in relation to workforce planning and succession management
  • Acts as a business partner with program areas to provide HR analysis, communicate risk areas and work with the program managers to identify risk mitigation
  • Coaches leaders in leveraging and maximizing the Hospital’s performance management tools for talent management, staff development and performance improvement plans
  • Conducts monthly reoccurring meetings with clients to attend to any needs relating to HR operational and planning activities
  • Effective administration, interpretation and application of Collective Agreements and Hospital policies, guidelines and directives
  • Handles grievance and dispute resolution management, including representing the Hospital at mediations and partnering with legal counsel on matters proceeding to arbitration; escalates to the Manager, Human Resources as necessary
  • Leads union-management committees, meetings and hearings
  • Acts as a mentor and provides functional guidance and advice to SHRBPs with regards to providing proactive and strategic client support on labour and employment matters ensuring legislative and collective agreement compliance at all times
  • Leads the response and analysis of various OHA surveys
  • Supports return to work process with Occupational Health and Safety, and the employee to finalize return to work plans, including modified plans
  • Provides ongoing updates and support to projects in line with legislation changes, business trends, external and internal changes

What You’ll need :

  • Business Administration, Human Resources or related undergraduate degree required
  • Minimum seven (7) years’ experience as an HR professional in a unionized workplace
  • Health care or broader public sector experience in HR preferred
  • Expert knowledge and experience with HR practices and principles including provincial legislation (Human Rights, Employment Standards, AODA, Health and Safety), Collective Agreement administration and the ability to effectively interpret and apply accordingly
  • Strong mentorship and relationship management skills with experience in partnering, influencing, coaching and building credibility with leaders and the HR team
  • Strong change management skills with demonstrated ability to act as a catalyst for change within the operation
  • Strong business acumen and issue resolution skills with the ability to deal with situations in an open, objective and flexible manner
  • Professional behaviour and communication that meets the standards of the professional regulatory college or association, as applicable, and the standards of Women’s College Hospital
  • This position plays a critical role in acting as an advocate for safety and will demonstrate principles, practices and processes that will optimize a safe environment for all
