SENIOR STRATEGIC ADVISOR, SUSTAINABILITY & RESILIENCY:

$77,381.86 - $89,848.11 Annually

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Director, Sustainability & Resilience, the Senior Advisor, Sustainability & Resilience (S&R) leads sustainability and resilience integration and capacity building projects within BC Housing and among housing partners. He/She/They is responsible for identification of strategic opportunities to use S&R as drivers for innovation and transformation, including leading sustainability & resilience planning, and performance monitoring at specific project and portfolio levels. The position is also responsible for identifying gaps and opportunities for the advancement of sustainability and resilience at BC Housing, especially when assessed through the lens of Reconciliation and Equity Diversity Inclusion and Belonging (EDIB), as well as the development and delivery of required training, and capacity building programs and
their evaluation. The role provides strategic and analytical support to leadership teams across BC Housing, leading toward deeper integration of social and environmental sustainability and resilience into BC Housing’s programs, policies, plans, and reports. The position collaborates across all branches and with external partners and organizations. It may involve working with the Operations branch on the development and implementation of new strategies, policies and resources for reducing the
environmental footprint of our business operations. Or it may involve working with the Development and Asset Strategies branch on integrating sustainability & resilience into new social housing construction projects or building retrofits. External partners may include various BC Government Ministries, other BC public sector organizations, other levels of government, non-profit housing providers, development project consultants and contractors, residential construction industry organization, utilities, academic institutions, health authorities, community organizations and others. The role assesses and analyzes current practices from the perspective of BC Housing’s mandates, sustainability and resilience goals and commitments, Truth & Reconciliation and EDIB priorities, and other factors, identifying and using sustainability and resilience trends, priorities, performance measures, and best practices.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

The successful candidate will have the following:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Building Technology, Architecture, Urban Planning, Applied Science, Sustainability,
  • Environmental Science, Business Administration, Adult Education, Geography, or other relevant field.
  • Extensive experience in leading the development and implementation of sustainability and/or resilience programs and strategies.
    Sustainable & Resilient Buildings Portfolio:
  • Considerable experience working towards making buildings more sustainable and/or resilient, using green building standards and resilience assessment tools and frameworks
    Capacity Enhancing Portfolio:
  • Considerable experience in developing organizational capacity for integration of sustainability through process and workshops design, multi-stakeholder facilitation and implementation of training and educational programs
  • or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience acceptable to the employer.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Considerable knowledge of the current sustainability trends especially with regards to climate change mitigation and adaptation.
  • Considerable knowledge of the current best practices in sustainable and resilient buildings.
  • Ability to demonstrate a high level of self-awareness, empathy and emotional intelligence.
  • Ability to learn and understand BC Housing’s mandates and commitments with regards to housing, sustainability, Truth and Reconciliation, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging.
  • Ability to be sensitive to the diverse perspectives of stakeholders and works with them to resolve differences and work cohesively together.
  • Ability to learn and understand the concepts of institutional and structural exclusion and bias and how these impact underserved and underrepresented communities.
  • Ability to generate and articulate creative new ideas/processes, and develop, plan, facilitate and coordinate their execution.
  • Ability to manage project teams, exercise sound judgment, and demonstrate tact and diplomacy in dealing with confidential and sensitive matters.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a project from idea to execution while managing multiple inputs and priorities.
  • Ability to establish a high level of rapport with staff, management/senior management, Executive, and other internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong problem solving, strategic and analytical thinking, conflict resolution and consensus building skills.
  • Demonstrated strong professional and interpersonal communication skills across a range of channels (written, oral, other) and ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional groups to achieve common goals.
  • Strong change management and organizational and time management skills.
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of real estate property development and construction, and related business concepts, processes and practices.
