Job summary

CPKC in Winnipeg, Manitoba, is seeking a Senior Storeperson to coordinate daily warehouse activities, receive and ship materials, and manage inventory using SAP and MERLIN. This role requires forklift certification, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to operate heavy equipment safely in all weather conditions.

You will maintain accurate records, comply with WHMIS/TDG, and support safe, efficient operations while working across shifts, including nights and weekends.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license is required.
  • Forklift training/certification and passing related exams.
  • Experience with warehouse equipment is a plus.
  • SAP, Excel or MERLIN used for inventory control.

Responsibilities

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

Senior Storeperson acts as liaison for the shop Management, Procurement Staff and Manager ensuring that work assignments are completed in a safe and efficient manner. Receives, warehouses, issues or ships supplies and material used in the operation of the railroad. Ensures or performs accurate and timely information in SAP electronically through the use of a computer and Coordinates picking and shipping of all material to customer locations in accordance with shipping schedules.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Lead and coordinate the daily activities of unionized store personnel
  • Perform receiving and issuing functions critical to inventory operations, including maintaining storage locations, recording inventory counts, and updating inventory systems
  • Identify, verify, and ensure the accuracy of material shipments received from suppliers, maintenance shops, and other warehouse locations
  • Prepare, package, and organize materials for shipment, including completing all required documentation such as shipping labels, postal forms, waybills, and shipping records
  • Operate material handling equipment, including forklifts, electric hoists, and Raymond lift trucks, to safely load, unload, and move materials and products
  • Conduct daily inspections of vehicles and equipment to ensure safe operating conditions, and promptly report hazards or deficiencies to the appropriate supervisor for corrective action
  • Ensure compliance with Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) and Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) regulations when receiving, storing, issuing, and shipping materials
  • Accurately maintain records, files, forms, and documentation required for warehouse and inventory operations using both manual and electronic systems
  • Support efficient warehouse operations while maintaining high standards of safety, accuracy, and productivity
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
  • High school diploma or general equivalency diploma
  • Valid driver's license
  • Must successfully complete formal forklift training program given by qualified trainers and have passed all examinations associated with training
  • 2 years' experience in a warehouse environment, with a proven record of operating material handling equipment an asset
  • Experience with computerized inventory control systems SAP, EXCEL, MERLIN would be an asset
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Available to work all types of shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays in all weather conditions
  • Ability to pass the required written examinations, read and understand safety instructions, rules, regulations and other written or printed material in English
