Our client is seeking a Senior Storage Analyst to design and architecture for the development, enhancements, and maintenance of Cloud Data Platforms (Azure, Snowflake, Databricks) and other key cloud services including ServiceNow and Cloudera (620).

Please note this is primarily remote role but may require occasional onsite meetings in Edmonton at consultant's own cost.

Must Haves:

  • 5 years' experience with automating routine tasks using Azure Automation, Terraform, PowerShell, GitHub/GitHub Actions, Ansible, and other scripting tools, deployment pipelines, and version control systems.
  • 5 years of experience designing, deploying, managing, and monitoring Azure cloud infrastructure, including performance, troubleshooting, security controls, and cost management.
  • 5 years of experience customizing ServiceNow widgets, pages, and components.
  • 5 years of experience integrating enterprise systems using REST/SOAP/Glide APIs or other integration frameworks and methods.
  • 5 years of experience scripting, developing custom modules, and configuring workflows within the ServiceNow platform.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, IT, or related field of study.

A combination of the following skills are required:

  • 4+ years' experience creating user training materials, technical documentation, and platform support resources.
  • 5+ years' experience designing and developing intuitive and visually appealing Service Portals.
  • 4+ years of hands-on experience working in a complex environment requiring prioritization of tasks and deliverables.
  • 4+ years of hands-on experience working in a multi-team IT support environment providing services to other teams and clients.
  • Able to work evenings and/or weekends and/or during blocktime/change windows outside of normal business hours.

Scope:

The Data and Content Management Division uses a one-government approach to information and privacy governance, decision-making, and service delivery across the government, balanced with individual client needs. This facilitates enhanced data access, collaboration, reduction in data duplication, and innovation to ensure effective and efficient services across the government to provide better services to citizens.

The Data Centre of Excellence requires a resource to support the design, development, and implementation of cloud platforms and applications to enable the government to better leverage its data assets and support the implementation of the government Data Strategy. Working within a team, this resource is an expert and plays a key role in ensuring that these cloud systems are designed, developed, operated, and maintained for use across ministries and with external stakeholders. This role will enact the pillars of the Data Strategy by using data to benefit Albertans.

The successful candidate will be a Storage Analyst / Platform Analyst / Platform Developer with a diverse range of technical skills and experience in working in multi-faceted roles. The role may have aspects of cloud platform administration, cloud architecture design and integration, security and compliance, ITIL-based service management, ServiceNow application development and configuration, Agile delivery and DevOps practices, data governance and metadata management, stakeholder engagement, and user support.

Duties:

The primary responsibilities for Data Platform Analyst include (but are not limited to):

  • Lead system implementation, design, and architecture for the development, enhancements, and maintenance of Cloud Data Platforms (Azure, Snowflake, Databricks) and other key cloud services (ServiceNow, Open Government Portal, Cloudera, etc.) to ensure the system design meets business requirements.
  • Design, build, and customize ServiceNow applications and workflows to support business requirements, including custom modules, portals, forms, and automated processes.
  • Design and implement integrations between ServiceNow and other GoA systems using APIs (REST/SOAP), scripting, connectors, or the Integration Hub.
  • Support the design and build scalable, reliable, and automatable data infrastructure, tooling, CI/CD pipelines to improve government data product delivery, analytics, and data science teams using cloud platforms (Azure/AWS/GCP/Snowflake) and big data technologies.
  • Deliver data platform management and administration including system performance, scheduled jobs, upgrades, user access, and license management.
  • Configure and tune cloud-based tools to manage cost, security, and compliance for the environments, working across a myriad of technology stacks in Azure, Cloudera, Snowflake, etc.
  • Provide services to support data privacy and security in adherence to enterprise policies (access control, security policies across platforms, etc.).
  • Collaborate with other team members to improve and optimize Cloud and On-premise Infrastructure systems including scalability, reliability, performance, capacity, availability, and disaster recovery.
  • Contribute to defining and establishing an Enterprise Data Strategy in GoA and be actively involved in the design of modern data platform features and functionalities.
  • Participate in sprint planning, version control (e.g., Git), CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing to deliver incremental improvements and maintain platform stability.
  • Document configurations, processes, known issues, and solutions to support knowledge transfer, operational readiness, and onboarding of team members.
  • Support projects to address the implementation of data product delivery components of the Data Strategy.
