Job description

SaskEnergy is seeking a qualified and motivated individual to join our team. The Senior Storage Advisor provides experienced and advanced professional engineering and/or geoscience services for the design, construction, maintenance and integrity of natural gas storage assets. The Senior Storage Advisor ensures sound application of cavern and reservoir storage related interpretive practices, industry practices, and technological advancements. This role works collaboratively with various internal and external stakeholders to ensure safety, integrity and reliability of storage assets with flexibility to meet changes in system planning and operation.

Position Details

• Non-union. This position is permanent full time.

Key Accountabilities

• Plan, review and recommend exploration and development programs for natural gas salt storage caverns or field reservoirs.

• Manage project budgets and resources, track costs, review project schedules and initiate work coordination plans.

• Provide technical support in the investigation, analysis and resolution of problems related to natural gas storage facilities; evaluate, recommend and implement new technology related to natural gas storage facilities.

• Develop and maintain programs to optimize life cycle asset plans that meet internal business demands while complying with relevant codes, standards and regulatory requirements.

• Work with the operations team to develop and review technical and maintenance standards to be applied to new and existing assets; facilitate technical discussions across engineering and operations to support field staff and asset integrity and reliability.

• Demonstrate asset performance standards and provide effective decision-making tools for upper management using real-time key performance indicators; analyze asset performance data and identify reliability issues before they materialize.

• Represent the company on industry technical committees.

• Collaborate with internal groups such as system planning, land services, Indigenous engagement, engineering, and construction groups during conceptual project planning.

• Liaise with regulatory authorities to streamline regulatory processes and to provide technical guidance during development of regulatory changes that may impact approval applications. Obtain required approvals within anticipated timelines.

• Provide subject matter expertise into the development and maintenance of storage standards and procedures ensuring consistency in the interpretation of legislation and delivery of programs.

• Other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

• Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Geological, Chemical, Metallurgical, or Petroleum are preferred, others may be considered) or in Geoscience (Geology or Geophysics are preferred, others may be considered).

• Registered Professional Designation (e.g., Professional Engineer or Geoscientist) able to practice in Saskatchewan.

• Eight (8) years of experience in related post graduate experience depicting a high level of competency in the area.

• A strong technical understanding of natural gas pipeline systems and natural gas storage in reservoirs and salt caverns, as well as current and emerging industry practices.

• Ability to interpret technical regulatory requirements, create/implement compliance plans, and effectively communicate to various stakeholders to adopt new practices.

• Ability to work collaboratively leveraging excellent oral and written communication skills.

• Ability to work on a team while building and maintaining effective relationships.

• Must have a continuing record of professional development and continuous learning.

A suitable combination of relevant education and experience may also be considered.

Additional Information

• Travel, including overnight stays away from bid headquarters, is required on occasion.

• A Class 5 Driver’s License is required.
