SUMMARY STATEMENT :

This position is responsible for statutory reporting, tax compliance, payroll processing, and accounts payable functions. The successful candidate will possess in-depth knowledge of accounting principles, Canadian tax regulations, and payroll procedures, along with strong analytical and communication skills.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS :
  • Interacts with all levels throughout organization including employees and outside vendors, including government agencies.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
General Accounting :
  • Perform month-end and year-end closing activities, including account reconciliations and journal entries.
  • Reconcile key General Ledger accounts to the sub-ledgers.
  • Assist with the preparation of internal financial reports for management and other financial analysis.
  • Support process improvements and automation initiatives to enhance operational efficiency.
Tax Compliance :
  • Oversee the preparation and submission of federal and provincial tax returns, including GST / HST, QST, and other relevant taxes.
  • Ensure compliance with Canadian tax laws and regulations, keeping up to date with changes in tax legislation.
  • Support the preparation and filing of annual T4 / T4A, Releve 1, and other tax-related documents.
Payroll :
  • Assist ASICS America with the payroll process, ensuring the accurate and timely processing of bi-weekly or monthly payroll.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable payroll laws and regulations, including deductions, remittances, and statutory benefits.
  • Prepare and submit government remittances related to payroll (e.g., CPP, EI, QPP).
  • Assist in tracking ASICS Canada vacation balances and accrual.
Accounts Payable :
  • Oversee the accounts payable process, ensuring timely and accurate processing of vendor invoices, payments, and reconciliations.
  • Review and approve supplier invoices, ensuring proper documentation and coding.
  • Manage vendor relationships and resolve any discrepancies or payment issues.
  • Prepare monthly accounts payable accruals and ensure proper recording in the financial statements.
Benefits Co-ordination :
  • Assist with ASICS Canada benefit co-ordination for Quebec employees including health benefits, RRSP plans, short- or long-term disability including CNESST cases.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES :
  • Solid knowledge of general accounting and financial planning.
  • Knowledge in Excel functions and modeling, including the use of pivot tables and macros for financial analysis.
  • Ability to manage large amounts of data efficiently.
  • Organized, self-motivated and strong attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Excellent verbal and oral communication skills.
  • Skilled at customer service, including developing cross-functional relationships.
  • Problem-solving and root-cause analysis skills, using creativity and out-of-the-box thinking to resolve issues.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE :
  • 3-5 years’ experience in financial analysis and budgeting and/or accounting.
  • Previous experience in the retail industry preferred.
