Senior Specifications Writer

Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada (hybrid)

Our in-house design departments include Architecture, Interior Design and Experiential Graphic Design. In addition, we have a Digital Practice Department, who commits to the implementation of BIM, research + development, and the infusion of cutting-edge technology into our projects and practice.

Who We Are Looking For

As a Senior Specification Writer, you will create technical specifications essential for realizing design intent and ensuring compliance with Codes, By-laws, and technical standards. Collaborating closely with project teams, you will provide crucial support across the project lifecycle. This position requires meticulous attention to detail and a comprehensive understanding of CCDC contracts, construction methodologies, building materials, industry standards, and regulations to adeptly fulfill project requirements and objectives.

What You Will Do

1. Develop and ensure compliance with comprehensive technical specifications, aligning with industry standards and project’s design intent.
2. Manage and update the studio-wide Master Specifications to reflect current standards, best practices, and technological advancements through department collaboration.
3. Oversee the integration and use of VisiSpecs to enhance digital specification processes.
4. Conduct detailed research and selection of materials to meet project requirements, focusing on sustainability and cost-effectiveness.
5. Review and analyze submittals, including shop drawings and product data.
6. Respond to Requests for Information (RFIs) and collaborate with stakeholders to resolve queries promptly and accurately, ensuring alignment with project specifications and timelines.

What You Will Bring

1. A Degree or Diploma from an accredited institution in Architecture.
2. A current member of Construction Specifications Canada (CSC).
3. 5 - 8 years of progressively responsible roles as a Specification Writer within architecture firms.
4. Strong understanding of current building codes, building construction and details.
5. Proficiency in SpecSimple, VisiSpecs, BlueBeam, Revit and MS Office Suite.
6. Strong communication, critical thinking, and effective problem-solving skills.
7. Ability to work in a hybrid role, with 2 days in the Studio.
