SENIOR SPECIALIST, MILL MAINTENANCE

The Senior Specialist, Mill Maintenance, is a pivotal role dedicated to ensuring the sustained reliability, integrity, and optimal performance of mill assets during continuous operation. This role transcends routine maintenance by focusing on proactive strategies that minimize downtime, enhance equipment lifespan, and mitigate production risks. The specialist serves as a technical authority, providing expert guidance in job scoping, meticulously planning resource allocation in collaboration with the planning department, and conducting in-depth failure analysis to prevent recurrence.

Furthermore, the role involves the strategic oversight of the reliability program, direct management of the Reliability Technician and Lubrication Technician, and the development and implementation of a comprehensive asset reliability and integrity program. By leveraging advanced analytical tools and methodologies, the Senior Specialist ensures the communication and mitigation of production risks, ultimately contributing to the mill's operational efficiency and profitability.

Key Responsibilities

Area 1:

  • Develop the maintenance business risk register and contingencies plans.
  • Conduct detailed technical evaluations to accurately scope maintenance jobs, ensuring all necessary tasks are identified and planned for.
  • Collaborate closely with the planning department to optimize resource allocation, including tools, manpower, and spare parts, for critical maintenance activities.
  • Develop comprehensive work packages and detailed procedures, ensuring clarity and efficiency in execution.
  • Contribute to the strategic planning of maintenance schedules, prioritizing critical tasks and minimizing production downtime.
  • Act as a technical liaison between the maintenance team and other departments, ensuring seamless communication and coordination.

Area 2:

  • Employ advanced failure analysis techniques (e.g., root cause analysis, fault tree analysis, Weibull analysis) to identify underlying causes of equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
  • Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of the reliability program, focusing on predictive and preventive maintenance strategies.
  • Directly manage the Reliability Technician and Lubrication Technician, providing technical mentorship, performance evaluations, and fostering a culture of continuous learning.
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for equipment reliability, generating detailed reports and recommendations for improvement.
  • Champion the use of condition monitoring technologies and data analysis to anticipate and prevent equipment failures.

Area 3:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive asset reliability and integrity program, encompassing criticality assessments, risk management, and performance monitoring.
  • Conduct annual criticality assessments of mill assets, utilizing tools like ACR (Asset Criticality Ranking) to prioritize maintenance efforts and allocate resources effectively.
  • Analyze and mitigate the probability and consequences of asset failures, employing methodologies like RPN (Risk Priority Number) to quantify and manage risks.
  • Develop and implement a system for communicating production risks associated with each asset, ensuring stakeholders are informed and prepared.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, regulations, and best practices in asset reliability and integrity management.
  • Build and maintain the asset historical data, and ensure that the data is used to improve the maintenance program.

Area 4:

  • Identify and implement opportunities for continuous improvement in maintenance processes, reliability strategies, and asset management practices.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices in maintenance and reliability engineering.
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing and training within the maintenance team, fostering a culture of technical excellence.
  • Develop and maintain documentation, including procedures, standards, and best practice guides, to ensure consistent and effective maintenance operations.
  • Lead or participate in reliability centered maintenance (RCM) events.

Qualifications

  • Relevant mechanical trade, technologist, or engineering degree in mechanics.
  • Certification in the field of education (Red Seal, PEO, etc.).
  • CMRP (Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional) certification is highly desirable.
  • 10+ years of related work experience in a mineral processing plant.
  • Previous experience in the mining industry is preferred.
  • Proficiency in computer applications and software, specifically MS Office, Oracle, AutoCAD.
  • Well organized, works well independently and in team settings, possesses good time-management skills, and is able to work effectively under pressure.
