Job summary

PowerCo Canada Inc. is hiring a Senior Mechanical & Electrical & Plumbing Specialist to lead construction management of M&E systems in St. Thomas, Ontario.

The role requires ensuring compliance with project specs, standards and safety codes while delivering high-quality outcomes. You will oversee on-site activities, coordinate with internal and external teams, review drawings and RFIs, and manage costs and schedules to prevent delays.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Professional engineer certification (P.Eng./P.E.) preferred.
• 5+ years in managing complex projects in clean/dry rooms, automotive, or pharma environments.
• Experience in design-build projects and coordinating large project teams.
• Ability to read construction drawings and specifications.
• Strong planning, scheduling, risk management and QA/QC capabilities.
• Proficiency with CAD/BIM and construction management tools.

Responsibilities

Your Role And Key Responsibilities

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Mechanical & Electrical & Plumbing Specialist to lead the construction management of mechanical and electrical systems across our projects. In this role, you will ensure that all operations meet project specifications, industry standards, and safety codes, contributing to the successful delivery of our high-quality projects.
This position is in-person and located in the charming town of St. Thomas ON.

What You Bring To The Team

• Plan, direct, and oversee all on-site plumbing, mechanical and electrical activities, ensuring compliance with project design, regulatory standards, and safety protocols.
• Conduct detailed reviews of construction drawings, documentations and BIM models to identify potential conflicts between architectural/structural elements and mechanical/electrical systems. Ensure that all mechanical and electrical systems align with project requirements, and proactively resolve any issues to avoid delays.
• Review and coordinate relevant drawings and documentation to streamline workflows, eliminate schedule delays, and ensure smooth execution of mechanical and electrical work.
• Work closely with both internal teams and external stakeholders to monitor project schedules, manage RFIs (Requests for Information), and oversee the approval of shop drawings.
• Supervise the on-site progress of mechanical and electrical installations to ensure adherence to project timelines and quality standards.
• Monitor and control material and labor costs related to mechanical and electrical components, ensuring accurate and timely quality reporting.
• Assist in resource planning and procurement of materials and equipment, ensuring timely delivery and cost efficiency.
• Identify and mitigate project risks, implementing corrective actions as necessary to avoid delays or cost overruns.
• Provide expert direction during the testing of mechanical and electrical systems, ensuring optimal operation and system functionality.
• Lead project closeout activities, including final inspections, documentation, and handover processes to the internal stakeholders
• Manage the preparation and submission of project reports, including progress updates, inspection records, and compliance documentation.
• Perform any additional tasks as required to support project completion.
  

What Makes You Stand Out

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical engineering, Electrical Engineering or some other construction-related field of study, or an equivalent combination of technical training and industry certifications
• P.Eng. or P.E. preferred.
• 5+ years of experience in working in the managing complex projects in Clean and Dry Rooms environment, Automotive, or pharmaceutical sectors. You are well-versed in all aspects of project management, including scope development, specification creation, tendering, contractor management, quality assurance and project closeout
• Experience working within large, complex project teams and actively participating in project meetings.
• Experience working on Design-Build projects.
• Can read and understand construction drawings and specifications.
• Understands the nuances of the design and construction process.
• Able to work safely on an active construction site in accordance with the Health & Safety Plan.
• Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and regulatory requirements.
• Familiarity with CAD software, building information modelling (BIM), and other construction management tools.
• Knowledge of local building codes, safety standards, and environmental regulations.
• Able to predict potential problems and solve them using logical approaches and analytical thinking.
• Can communicate in a professional manner with engineers, architects, and construction managers both verbally and in writing.
• Has high degrees of team orientation and social competence.
• Detail oriented and will diligently ensure that components of the project meet the overall goal.
• Proficient in construction scheduling, workflows, and quality control/quality assurance.
