Salary: Our salaries generally range from $101,639.30 to $127,049.13 and are based on qualifications and experience.

About the role

Join the Housing Economics and Insights team in the Senior Specialist, Housing Economics position. In this role, you will conceptualize, plan, design, manage, and deliver complex analyses that reflect proactive system-wide thinking and strong awareness of the organizational situation.

What you’ll do:

  • Conceive, recommend, conduct and lead analysis projects and publications on a broad variety of housing economic issues across and within markets that are aligned with the division, sector and CMHC priorities.
  • Provide thought leadership and expertise in various areas of housing economics, as well as strategic expert advice and recommendations for senior management and the Minister to influence decision-making.
  • Provide technical input into the analyses and modelling of economic, housing, and mortgage market activity at the national, provincial, and local levels.
  • Monitor trends, emerging issues and impacts of change; identify economic and housing knowledge gaps and address them by proposing and delivering leading edge ideas, research, and analyses.
  • Act as a quality assurance function for project methodologies and output, as well as a challenge and oversight function for analyses.
  • Adapt communication (written and spoken) to relevant audiences.
  • Liaise with other functional teams to ensure clear communication of planned and ongoing work.
  • Support and mentor divisional staff in identifying analyses needs, developing plans and carrying out the work. Provide peer review and other support to team members throughout the analysis production cycle.

What you should have:

  • Postgraduate degree in economics or related disciplines.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in understanding, interpreting, and analyzing economic trends and variables, and their impact on the development of the market you were covering; as well as delivering economic research and analyses with measurable results.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and delivering analysis projects.
  • Thorough understanding of and experience in analysis and forecasting of the general economy, housing, and mortgage markets.
  • Expert knowledge and demonstrated experience in the application of statistics, econometric, regression analysis, seasonal adjustment, simulation and forecasting techniques, including knowledge of R and/or Python or other relevant tools.
  • Influencing skills and ability to obtain relevant information and provide clear and politically appropriate messaging.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

It would be great if you also had:

  • Advanced knowledge of metropolitan housing market trends in British Columbia and Prairies.
