About the role

Join the Compliance and Risk Governance team, in the Bilingual Senior Specialist, Risk Governance position. As a leader in risk management, CMHC is committed to ensuring it has in place risk governance and risk culture that align with the legislative and regulatory landscape while staying abreast of the ongoing changing risk environment. This position will exercise ongoing thought leadership around how risk is being managed and governed at CMHC to ensure consistency and rigor is applied.

This position will guide, mentor, and provide strategic and expert governance advice in drafting risk governance documents related to the CMHC’s risks, strategy, risk appetite, and operational direction. It supports the policy governance process by maintaining an up-to-date policy governance structure that identifies and addresses compliance gaps and opportunities for enhancement. Additionally, this position will support the compliance program for internal policies, adopting a risk-based approach that balances sound practices with effective risk management. You will collaborate closely with all business lines and oversight teams to ensure the corporation maximizes the value of its risk governance practices, while also serving as a key liaison between Chief Risk Office oversight functions to support risk management documentation and the application of risk tools.

What you’ll do:

  • Prepare insightful and value-added written analyses for management’s review and take initiative to conduct analysis required to explain policy governance structure and alignment with legislative and regulatory requirements.
  • Support the compliance program to ensure corporate wide policies and supporting documents accuracy. Contribute to the continuous validation of the policy inventory, library, identifying and prioritizing review that align to business needs.
  • Lead training session and support client strong policy governance application across the corporation and at all levels.
  • Execute ad hoc analysis to provide senior management with Management action plans, risk acceptance, risk aggregation data and recommendations to assist with new policy development. Provide analytical support in the creation of senior management reports (e.g. Quarterly Risk Management, Quarterly Financial, reporting etc). Ensure data validation and quality control checks are performed and take the lead in ensuring accuracy and relevance.
  • Take a lead role in development and maintenance of Risk tools (SharePoint, Dashboard, Power bi reporting, GRC).
  • Lead a continuous process of improvement for generating Risk Governance Enterprise and Business level Risk Appetite metrics, Key Performance Indicators and follows up to ensure desired results are achieved, taking the lead on any revisions that may be necessary.
  • Take a lead role in working with risk oversight functions to identify and develop performance measures and targets; provide expert advice and guidance on adoption of relevant measures and targets.
  • Lead the resolution of any issues to assure the integrity of the information held in the system. Proactively identify issues that could compromise integrity and leads initiatives to address issues.

What you should have:

  • A bachelor’s degree in business administration, Communications, Education, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in risk governance, policy compliance, regulatory alignment, data analysis and reporting.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in both official languages (English and French), including presentation skills with the ability to persuade, influence and debate with a variety of audiences using tact, diplomacy and judgment.
  • Strong knowledge in technical skills with different sources of data collection (Advance Excel, Power BI, SharePoint, workflow).
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of risk management, governance and compliance principles.
  • Knowledge of regulatory landscape applicable to Crown corporations.
  • Great understanding of corporate business lines and operations.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, critical and systems thinking skills. Ability to manage many deliverables and make sound decisions in an effective manner.

It would be great if you also had:

  • Knowledge of educational methodologies will be considered an asset.
