Job Description: Software Systems Architect at Ciena

How You Will Contribute:

As a Software Systems Architect with the Ciena Optical Networks System Design Architecture team, you will play a crucial role designing complex networking solutions that meet the current and future needs of our customers. You will work closely with a cross-functional team to support the evolution of our existing product portfolio and the development of next-generation products.

Responsibilities

1. Product Design
2. Work with Product Line Management (PLM) to define requirements for customer-specific requests or new market needs.
3. Collaborate with design teams to iterate hardware architectures and present trade-offs.
4. Define solution requirements in detail, including high-level specifications and detailed requirements.
5. Focus on object modeling, especially datapath functionality, adhering to standards like OTN.
6. Support hardware and software design teams during the design phase.

2. Contribute to hardware characterization, software integration, system testing, and verification plans.
3. Support design teams in resolving testing issues.
4. Guide or execute system-level testing.

1. Customer Interaction
2. Create documentation for PLM describing new technologies and designs.
3. Present to customer teams and support escalation of field issues.

1. Cross-functional Support and Alignment
2. Ensure design teams are aligned and informed about requirements and issues.
3. Communicate any roadblocks or issues requiring escalation or change.

The Must Haves:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
• Experience or interest in telecommunications system design.
• Experience with software design, testing, and validation.
• Strong object modeling skills, including open standards.
• Familiarity with modeling languages like YANG, UML, or XML.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Self-motivated and able to work independently.
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
• Knowledge of optical networking technologies and protocols (DWDM, SONET/SDH).

Pay Range:

The annual pay range for this position is $110,900 - $177,100 CAD.
