Nanometrics Inc. in Ottawa, ON is seeking a Senior Software Developer to join our team and help build the next generation of scientific instrumentation software spanning embedded firmware to cloud services.

You will work across the software ecosystem, design robust features, mentor peers, and drive architectural decisions, with a focus on reliability, performance, and cross-disciplinary collaboration. Candidates should have 5+ years of experience and strong C++, Rust, or Java skills, plus Linux

Qualifications

5+ years of professional software development experience.
Expert-level proficiency in C++, Rust, or Java with willingness to adopt new languages.
Deep knowledge of Linux development environments and networking.
Experience with Git, Jira, unit testing frameworks, and CI/CD systems.

Responsibilities

Full-Stack development and implementation for instrumentation, data center, and cloud software.
Analyze and optimize system reliability, performance, and usability.
Guide technology selection and apply appropriate languages (e.g., Rust for embedded).
Lead code reviews and mentor junior developers.
Own technical scoping, architecture trade-offs, and risk mitigation.
Investigate issues in R&D and drive process improvements.
