Title and Summary

Senior Software Engineer (SDET Backend API's) / Sr. Software Engineer

Our Purpose:

We work to connect and power an inclusive, digital economy that benefits everyone, everywhere by making transactions safe, simple, smart, and accessible. Using secure data and networks, partnerships, and passion, our innovations and solutions help individuals, financial institutions, governments, and businesses realize their greatest potential. Our decency quotient, or DQ, drives our culture and everything we do inside and outside of our company. We cultivate a culture of inclusion (https://www.mastercard.us/en-us/vision/who-we-are/diversity-inclusion.html) for all employees that respects their individual strengths, views, and experiences. We believe that our differences enable us to be a better team – one that makes better decisions, drives innovation, and delivers better business results.

Overview:

The Identity Verification group within the Services division works to prevent fraud by securing a user’s identity through their devices, identity information, and usage patterns such as passive Biometrics. Comprised of best-in-class solutions from Ekata and NuData Security (Mastercard companies), we use complex machine learning, a client-customizable rule engine, combined with device, identity, and transaction information from billions of transactions to reduce user friction and enable highly secure real-time transactions.

The Identity Verification group is looking for a Sr Software Engineer in Test for the backend to help build out both customer-facing and backend API products and services, leveraging data from our graph to deliver industry-leading risk assessment solutions.

We are the Platform & API Team responsible for the customer-facing APIs of our products, seeking a Sr. Software Engineer for our Seattle or Vancouver offices. The role involves designing, coding, and maintaining high-performance data processing applications on the JVM platform (primarily in Clojure), running on AWS. The ideal candidate would have extensive experience building latency-sensitive APIs with functional programming and a passion for adopting new technologies to solve challenging problems.

Role & Responsibilities:

  • Write and own technical test design and execution as part of an Agile Scrum team, with a focus on automation, tooling, and scripting.
  • Collaborate closely with developers throughout the sprint cycle to ensure high-quality feature delivery.
  • Proactively influence and shape the QA process to help release the best possible product.
  • Take an innovative approach towards testing and troubleshooting new backend REST API technologies.
  • This is a technical role involving writing, interpreting, and reviewing test and application code.

All About You:

  • Experience with test automation tools like Jenkins and Cucumber.
  • Proficiency in testing REST APIs.
  • Understanding of fundamental QA processes.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Basic knowledge of web server/application operation and HTTP protocol.
  • Manual API and web application testing experience.
  • Ability to create and maintain test cases based on acceptance criteria.
  • Experience with *nix OS (MacOS, Linux).
  • Proficiency in at least one high-level programming or scripting language.
  • Experience with collaboration and bug tracking tools (Jira, Bugsnag, Dynatrace).
  • Willingness to learn new tools and technologies.

Helpful to Have:

  • Experience in documentation and diagram creation.
  • Experience with cloud environments (AWS, Azure).
  • Knowledge of Java, Spring Boot, JavaScript, shell scripting.
  • Experience with version control systems (Git, BitBucket, SVN).
  • Experience with web test automation frameworks (Selenium, Postman).
  • Experience in Agile development environments.
  • Experience with CI systems (Jenkins).
  • Interest in fraud detection and security.

Education / Experience:

Experience in delivering secure solutions in Financial/Fraud Services is preferred. A degree in Information Systems, IT, Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent work experience is required.

In return, we offer a hybrid work environment, team and tech events, competitive salary, extended health benefits, flex-time, and support for professional development.
