For one of our clients, we are seeking a Senior Software Engineer (Ruby on Rails - Core Scribd), remotely from United States and Canada.

As a Senior Software Engineer on the Core Scribd team, your responsibilities will include designing and building scalable backend services supporting millions of users. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams—including front-end engineers, infrastructure, and data platform teams—to optimize backend performance and reliability. Your work will focus on enhancing user experiences, supporting ads monetization, and driving growth. You will leverage Ruby on Rails to develop high-throughput services, adhering to best practices in software development such as code quality, testing, and maintainability.

Accountabilities:

• Design and build scalable backend systems handling large traffic and supporting millions of users
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement new features and improve existing ones
• Develop and maintain high-throughput backend services supporting user-facing applications
• Promote best practices in software development, including code quality and performance optimization
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues in distributed systems
• Lead API development and integration for seamless service delivery

Requirements:

• 4+ years of professional software development experience
• Strong proficiency in Ruby on Rails and experience building scalable backend services
• Experience with high-throughput systems capable of handling 500+ requests per second
• Deep knowledge of database architecture and best practices
• Familiarity with AWS services (e.g., S3, SQS), MySQL, Airflow, Databricks, GitHub, and Terraform
• Knowledge of JavaScript and React is a plus
• Strong problem-solving skills and a collaborative attitude
