About this opportunity:

We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer / MTS to join a high-performing Robotics & Space Operations team. In this role, you will contribute to the design, implementation, maintenance, and testing of safety-critical, real-time flight software systems supporting advanced space and robotics technologies.

What You’ll Do:

Software Development & Technical Leadership

• Lead the design and architecture of safety-critical, real-time software solutions.
• Design software that is modular, maintainable, extensible, testable, and efficient.
• Lead and participate in software implementation, integration, verification, and validation activities.
• Develop and maintain embedded flight software using modern C++ practices.
• Ensure all designs, technical decisions, and implementations are thoroughly documented and communicated.

Code Quality & Engineering Excellence

• Conduct peer reviews and provide constructive feedback to engineering team members.
• Contribute to software development standards, coding guidelines, tools, and engineering processes.
• Support and drive automated testing initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.
• Participate in estimation, planning, and technical risk assessment activities.
• Mentor junior and intermediate engineers through technical guidance, design reviews, and coaching.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including systems, hardware, integration, and test engineering groups.
• Work closely with senior engineers and leadership to establish and evolve engineering best practices.
• Support other technical initiatives and projects as assigned.

What You Bring:

• Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
• 10+ years of experience developing embedded software applications.
• Minimum 5 years of hands‑on experience working with VxWorks (Wind River).
• Proven experience designing and implementing safety‑critical, real‑time software systems.
• Experience working with System-on-Chip (SoC) architectures.
• Experience developing and maintaining automated testing frameworks.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
• Self‑motivated with a positive, collaborative approach to teamwork.

Nice to Have

• Experience with communication protocols such as SPI, EtherCAT, and CANOpen.
• Exposure to Test-Driven Development (TDD), ATDD, and BDD methodologies.
• Experience with Continuous Integration (CI/CD) and build automation tools.
• Robotics, mechatronics, motion control, or actuator/joint control experience.
• Familiarity with ARM and/or RISC-V processors and development environments.
• Flight software, aerospace software, or avionics development experience.
• Docker and containerized development experience.
• Experience in highly regulated or safety-critical environments.
• Exposure to model-based design and verification techniques.
