Job description

Eyeline is a global team of risk takers, innovators and perfectionists who achieve creative visions and have fun doing it. A dynamic workforce nestled within the industry’s most intriguing cities, united by a drive to push the boundaries of storytelling.

The Senior Software Engineer (Finance System) sits on the Platform Engineering team and works day to day with Production Finance to build, support, and improve the studio's bidding, budgeting, cost tracking, forecasting, and resourcing tooling. Responsibilities include owning features end to end from stakeholder conversation through delivery and support, building integrations across finance systems, production management tooling, and the data warehouse, and triaging and resolving user issues in a deadline-driven environment. The measure of the role is that painful, spreadsheet-bound production finance and workforce management processes get documented as they really work and then replaced with dashboards, applications, and automated workflows the team trusts; with solutions delivered on Platform's foundations for web-app development and agentic workflows rather than as one-off scripts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work within the Platform Engineering team to build out and integrate the studio's production finance analytics tooling across bidding, budgeting, cost tracking, forecasting, and resourcing translating production and business needs into reliable, scalable solutions.
  • Consult with Production Finance and Workforce Management stakeholders to map how a process actually works before deciding what to build, then deliver the smallest durable thing that makes the manual work disappear.
  • Take recurring models, forecasts, and analyses out of one-off spreadsheets and into applications and dashboards with proper data, version control, and documentation.
  • Build and maintain integrations between finance and resourcing systems, production management tooling, and the data warehouse, so that budget-to-actual and cost reporting draw on a single trusted source rather than fragmented exports.
  • Solve complex problems across production pipeline and finance workflows, identifying where data diverges between systems and proposing practical improvements.
  • Support data lifecycle integrity across modern production workflows, helping ensure consistency and reliability across teams, pipeline stages, and reporting periods.
  • Write high-quality, well-tested, maintainable Python, and lead by example in code review to uphold and raise the team's engineering standards.
  • Partner with Production Finance, Production Management and Workforce Management to triage and resolve issues quickly in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Collaborate with other Platform Engineering teams (Backend, Core, FrontEnd) and with Data Science and Analytics partners on shared services, APIs, warehouse data, and infrastructure that production tools depend on.
  • Use AI coding tools as a primary way of building — designing the approach, directing the agent, critically reviewing the output, and knowing when the model is wrong.
  • Contribute to technical briefs, roadmaps, and user documentation, communicating clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to other engineers working in the production systems codebase.
Engineering
  • 5+ years building and supporting internal tooling or production systems in a deadline-driven environment, with a track record of tools people actually adopted.
  • Strong proficiency in Python for maintaining, enhancing, and building production tools, including well-tested, maintainable code within established codebases.
  • Experience designing or consuming RESTful APIs in Python; familiarity with event-driven patterns (e.g., webhooks, event daemons, scheduled jobs) a plus.
  • Writes SQL comfortably and understands the difference between an embedded store like SQLite and a server database like Postgres — and when each is the right choice.
  • Experience with version control (particularly git) and a methodical approach to testing and validating solutions: branches, commits, merges, pull requests, and untangling the occasional mess without panic.
  • Fluency with AI coding tools and the ability to direct an agent to build real, working tools — owning the result, reading the generated code critically, and catching the subtle thing that's wrong.
Finance Fundamentals
  • Hands-on experience building financial models, forecasts, and analytical work products (production finance, FP&A, corporate finance, banking, consulting, or similar).
  • Comfort with the substance of finance such as driver-based forecasting, variance analysis, cost modeling, and budget-to-actual analysis.
  • Finance judgment to know when to build versus when a spreadsheet is the right answer, and to architect durable solutions that avoid source-of-truth fragmentation.
Working Style
  • Bias to action — you'd rather have a working prototype in front of users this week than a perfect spec next quarter, and you'd rather build the reusable tool than do the manual task a fourth time.
  • Ability to analyze complex production pipelines and stakeholder needs and to design practical, scalable solutions.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for diagnosing and resolving workflow issues across production and finance users.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication for documenting solutions and collaborating across Production, Production Finance, Pipeline, and engineering teams.
Nice to Have
  • Background in media, entertainment, VFX, feature animation or production finance.
  • Experience with ShotGrid workflows in a production environment.
  • Experience with data warehouses or modern analytics stacks (e.g., Iceberg tables, data movement platforms).
  • Experience building dashboards or reporting interfaces (Tableau, Streamlit, Plotly Dash, Shiny).
  • Familiarity with web development using React or Flask.
  • Familiarity with agent orchestration, MCP, and scheduled/automated workflows.
