Job summary

Thomson Reuters is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for Content Tools to own APIs and retrieval components, enabling precise access to authoritative legal content across geographies. You will ship end-to-end tools with contract-driven interfaces and contribute to a fast-moving, AI-assisted development workflow.

You’ll collaborate with R&D (TR Labs) and product teams, uphold reliability and on-call ownership, and work in a hybrid environment on AWS, Vespa, and security-conscious systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of software engineering experience designing, developing, and testing production backend, API, or data-infrastructure systems with end-to-end ownership.
• Mastery of Python and strong fundamentals including API design and rigorous testing discipline.
• Solid distributed-systems knowledge and resilient design.
• Proficiency with AWS cloud services, Datadog and CI/CD practices.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and own Content Tools end-to-end: APIs and retrieval components for querying TR legal content.
• Build API-first tools with versioned contracts, schemas, and ownership metadata for self-service usage.
• Design retrieval components for agentic use with latency budgets and token-aware payloads.
• Collaborate with TR Labs to improve Vespa-based search, relevance, and ranking.
• Practice verified spec-driven development with eval datasets, CI gates, and gold data.
• Work in the core stack: Python, FastAPI, Pydantic on AWS; Vespa search; GitHub Actions; Datadog; MCP.
