Job description

Senior Software Engineer III (Remote Canada)

About the company

Our Series A client is transforming the building supply industry through innovative technology. Their integrated commerce platform enables independent building suppliers to streamline operations, enhance customer service, and deliver exceptional digital buying experiences. By connecting sales, accounts receivable, operations, and customer engagement into one seamless solution, they help their customers operate more efficiently and drive growth.

Their team is made up of curious, entrepreneurial problem-solvers who thrive in a fast-paced environment. They value innovation, collaboration, and ownership, with a shared focus on building practical solutions that create meaningful impact for their customers and the industry as a whole.

The Opportunity

We're looking for a highly experienced Senior Software Engineer who operates at a near-Staff leveland thrives in a fast-paced, high-ownership environment. This is a role for someone who can independently drive complex initiatives from concept to production, influence technical direction, and elevate the capabilities of the engineering team around them.

You'll be trusted to own major features and systems end-to-end, make thoughtful architectural decisions, and partner closely with product, design, and business stakeholders to deliver meaningful customer impact. Beyond building software, you'll serve as a mentor, helping intermediate engineers grow through coaching, code reviews, and day-to-day collaboration.

We're particularly interested in engineers who have fully embraced the next generation of AI-powered software development. AI-assisted coding should be a core part of your workflow, whether through tools like Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or similar platforms. We believe exceptional engineers leverage AI to accelerate development, improve code quality, automate routine work, and spend more time solving the hardest technical problems.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Design, build, test, and deploy scalable features across our web and mobile platforms.
  • Take ownership of complex technical initiatives from concept through production.
  • Develop and improve customer integrations, helping reduce onboarding time and streamline implementation.
  • Partner with product, operations, and leadership teams to ensure technical decisions align with business goals.
  • Work directly with customers and technology partners when needed to scope and deliver custom integrations.
  • Leverage modern AI and LLM-based development tools to increase productivity and accelerate delivery.
  • Continuously improve platform reliability, performance, and observability.
  • Contribute to a culture of engineering excellence by sharing knowledge, mentoring teammates, and promoting best practices.

What We're Looking For

Technical Skills

  • 7+ years of professional software development experience.
  • Strong hands-on experience with TypeScript and modern development frameworks.
  • Proven expertise building and scaling Node.js backend applications and APIs.
  • Experience working with GraphQL is highly desirable.
  • Solid background developing modern applications using React and/or React Native.
  • Experience designing and supporting scalable system integrations and distributed architectures.

What Makes You Successful

  • You're comfortable working with a high degree of autonomy and ownership.
  • You enjoy startup environments where priorities can evolve quickly and execution matters.
  • You have a builder's mindset and like creating elegant solutions to real-world business problems.
  • You can communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • You take a practical, customer-first approach to product development.
  • Experience in the building materials, construction, or LBM (Lumber & Building Materials) industry is an asset, but not required.

Why Join?

  • Work remotely from anywhere in Canada or the U.S.
  • Be part of a growing technology company transforming an industry that has been largely overlooked by modern software.
  • Have a direct influence on product direction and technical strategy.
  • Collaborate with a talented, entrepreneurial team that values initiative and innovation.
  • Build products that customers rely on every day to run their businesses more effectively.

If you're a senior developer who enjoys ownership, solving challenging problems, and building technology with real-world impact, we'd love to hear from you.
