Job summary

Morningstar is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our Toronto data feed platform team. You will design and implement Python-based data pipelines on AWS, delivering data in CSV, Parquet and JSON formats to clients via S3, SFTP and cloud marketplaces.

You’ll contribute to web interfaces for monitoring and configuration, collaborate with product owners and engineers to meet enterprise SLAs, and participate in DevOps practices and cloud migrations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field, with 5+ years of software or data engineering experience.
• Experience in Python for building data pipelines, ETL processes, and backend services.
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Google Cloud Platform, or Azure) including compute, storage, and serverless services for cloud-native data pipelines.
• Experience working with file-based data formats (CSV, Parquet, JSON) and designing reliable data delivery solutions.
• Familiarity with SQL and experience with modern development practices (Git, CI/CD, automated testing).

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain Python‑based data pipelines on AWS (S3, Lambda, Step Functions, Glue, ECS) for scalable file‑based feed generation and delivery.
• Design file delivery mechanisms supporting multiple formats (CSV, Parquet, JSON) with appropriate partitioning, compression, and encryption strategies.
• Implement data quality validation, monitoring, and alerting systems to ensure reliable feed delivery.
• Contribute to migrating legacy feed products to AWS cloud‑native architecture and participate in DevOps practices including CI/CD and infrastructure as code.
• Collaborate on building web interfaces for feed monitoring and configuration – willingness to learn and contribute is more important than deep front‑end expertise.
• Participate in code reviews, technical documentation, and production support.

About the Role

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will work closely with product owners, engineering teams, and technical leads on our next generation data feed platform. This role is primarily focused on building Python‑based data pipelines and file‑based data delivery systems on AWS. You will architect and implement solutions for delivering data in various file formats (CSV, Parquet, JSON) to clients through S3, SFTP, and Cloud Data Marketplaces such as Snowflake Marketplace, ensuring the solutions are scalable, reliable, and meet enterprise‑grade SLAs. Additionally, you will contribute to building web interfaces for monitoring and configuration of our data feeds.

Compensation

Base Salary: $90,489.00–132,711.00. Incentive Target: 12.5% Annual.
