The Senior Software Engineer Role

We're seeking an exceptional Senior Software Engineer to join our team and lead the technical evolution of Qlik's platform. In this senior technical role, you'll combine hands-on engineering excellence with architectural vision to deliver innovative solutions that power our next-generation products. As a technical leader, you'll mentor teams, drive best practices, and directly contribute to our most challenging engineering problems.

Technical Excellence & Engineering Leadership

  • Participate in all aspects of software engineering including designing, planning, coding, verifying, integrating, releasing, monitoring, supporting, and maintaining.
  • Lead by example through hands-on coding, code reviews, and technical mentorship.

  • Architect scalable, performant solutions while maintaining code quality and reliability.
  • Prototype and validate new technologies through proof-of-concepts and experiments.

Strategic Technical Contributions

  • Evaluate and implement new technologies that enhance our platform capabilities.
  • Collaborate with Product Management to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Assess technical trade-offs and their impact on development timelines and system performance.

Team Leadership & Mentorship

  • Mentor senior engineers and elevate the technical capabilities of the team.
  • Lead technical design sessions and architectural reviews.
  • Foster a culture of engineering excellence and continuous learning.
  • Guide teams through complex technical challenges and implementations.
  • Build consensus on technical approaches while knowing when to make decisive calls.

We're looking for a teammate with:

  • 7+ years of software engineering experience with significant hands-on development.
  • Proficiency in modern programming languages such as Java, Clojure, and Python.
  • Experience with distributed systems and microservices architecture.
  • Understanding of containerization and deployment on Linux using Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Knowledge of software design patterns and architectural principles.
  • Experience in performance optimization and scalability engineering.
  • Full-stack development with emphasis on backend systems.
  • Database design and optimization (SQL and NoSQL).
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
  • Strong focus on code quality, testing strategies, and engineering best practices.
  • Ability to produce clear technical documentation and share knowledge effectively.

The anticipated base salary range for this role is $140,000 - $150,000 CDN per year. Final compensation will depend on location, skills, education, experience, and organizational needs. Qlik offers a comprehensive benefits package, with eligibility governed by applicable plan documents and policies.
