Job summary

CARFAX, Inc. in London, Ontario, is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join a fast-paced, mission-driven team.

The role focuses on building high-quality, scalable systems with a strong emphasis on architecture, security, and performance across full-stack technologies. Expect collaborative, cross-functional work with PMs, architects, and operations in a hybrid model requiring 2 days per week in the London office.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in software design and development of complex systems.
• Full Stack experience with front-end and back-end technologies.
• Experience with REST or GraphQL APIs and modern frontend libraries.
• Experience with Kubernetes, Docker and cloud services (AWS).
• Knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases and CI/CD pipelines.
• Ability to lead, mentor engineers and work in a matrix environment.

Responsibilities

• Develop high-performing, robust code for complex systems in a modern stack.
• Collaborate with Architects, UX designers, PMs, and support teams.
• Participate in design decisions, research new technologies, and prototype.
• Apply testing, CI/CD, and monitoring to ensure quality and reliability.
• Contribute to architecture, security, and performance improvements.
• Mentor colleagues and share knowledge across guilds and teams.

A typical day will have you:

• Working in a dynamic, agile, matrix environment supporting high-use, modern applications.
• Participating in daily huddles and other Scrum ceremonies.
• Writing high-performing, robust code to guarantee fast and accurate delivery of new system features on high-visibility projects.
• Apply best practices for architecture, security, and performance of complex systems primarily in Typescript.
• Participating in design decisions, including technology research and prototyping.
• Utilizing test driven development and continuous integration methods.
• Developing thorough testing and monitoring approaches.
• Getting exposed to a broad range of technologies to continually improve your skills.
• Collaborating closely with other developers, Architects, UX designers, Project and Product Managers, support teams and other stakeholders.
• Sharing your knowledge with other team members and across the organization via guilds and inter-team coordination.
• Documenting processes, architecture, maintenance, actions and decisions.
• Ensuring adequate Non-Functional Requirements are implemented and updated throughout the application lifecycle.

Required Experience:

• 5+ years of experience in software design and development of complex systems.
• Knowledge of Full Stack software development.
• Experience with Back-End languages (such as Java, Kotlin, C#, Go and Python).
• Experience with Front-End languages (such as JavaScript, Node.js, Typescript, HTML5 and CSS3).
• Experience with modern front-end JavaScript Libraries (such as Reactjs, Vue or Angular).
• Experience with client/server architecture and building APIs and services using REST or GraphQL.
• Experience with Kubernetes, Docker and BigData is an advantage.
• Experience with Relational and NoSQL database systems (such as MySQL, Mongo, DynamoDB or Elasticsearch).
• Experienced with developing in AWS cloud environment.
• Experience with Continuous Integration / Delivery such as Gitlab CI/CD
• Experience with Containerization (such as Docker).
• Experience with application monitoring and alerting systems and standards (such as New Relic, OTEL, CloudWatch, ITIL, Prometheus, PagerDuty).
• Knowledge of microservices architectural pattern.
• Experienced with full SDLC development including design, building, testing, deployment, upgrade and support.
• Ability to work and collaborate effectively in a matrix team environment as well as independently.
• Ability to provide leadership and mentor engineers through complicated technical challenges.

Preferred Experience:

• Experience with OAuth2.0, OIDC, or other modern authentication frameworks and conventions.
• Experience with SEO and Site Speed.
• Experience with A/B testing.
• Supported applications in multiple markets and time zones and languages (e.g. Canada).
• Experience with software development using AI Coding Toolsets (such as Co-Pilot, Claude Code) and AI SDLC Frameworks (such as AIDLC).

Base Salary

The anticipated base salary range for this position is CAD $93,000 to $139,000 annually. Final base salary will be determined based on geographical location, experience, and qualifications.
