Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Software Developer (DevOps Engineer) to lead and mentor within our team. You will be a technical expert, driving innovation and ensuring the highest quality of software solutions. This role requires deep technical expertise, strong leadership skills, and a commitment to excellence. You will work in a collaborative environment, guiding junior developers, and contributing to the overall architectural direction of our software platforms. Specific projects may involve leading the development of complex features for our mobile applications, full-stack systems, or network infrastructure projects.

The DevEx & DevOps COE team is responsible for providing shared capabilities and best practices to the different NTS Delivery teams within Bell Canada including the following:

  • Platforms and Tooling
  • DevEx & DevOps Transformation
  • Secure Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC)

As a DevOps Engineer, you will be part of the DevEx & DevOps Transformation and closely work with Bell Development teams to help improve their DevOps skills and practices by transitioning from a traditional way of delivering software to a DevOps/Agile approach. Your responsibility is to help teams onboard onto centralized tool offerings that will allow them to develop software more efficiently and effectively.

  • Build self-serve workflows for easy onboarding and better developer experience.
  • Work with the development teams to set the foundation for good software delivery practices to increase confidence in releases with security, compliance, and quality checks in place for code to pass to production.
  • Develop and maintain different playbooks and help teams onboard into the Golden templates that are customized for their specific needs.
  • Be involved in the creation of training materials to help teams and foster the adoption and upskilling.

Key Responsibilities

  • Help teams upskill and adopt DevOps best practices.
  • Assist development teams in onboarding to the Bell Golden CI/CD pipelines.
  • Help build generic Golden images that can be used enterprise-wide.
  • Collaborate with the program team to enhance and customize the Golden Pipeline based on the teams’ requirements.
  • Identify opportunities for automation.
  • Create guides for self-serve and onboarding materials relative to specific DevOps training needs.
  • Participate in enterprise DevOps transformation team efforts.
  • Proactively address complex challenges with immediate and effective action.
  • Analyze problems comprehensively to develop innovative solutions.
  • Tailor communication style and content to resonate with diverse audiences.
  • Quickly master new situations, demonstrating skillful responsiveness to evolving demands.
  • Promote a unified team environment by actively challenging divisive thinking.
  • Actively seek out challenging assignments and career development opportunities.
  • Provide guidance, support, and mentorship to junior team members.

Critical Qualifications

  • 8+ years of relevant software development experience (more experience may be considered).
  • Mastery of at least one programming language (e.g., Kotlin, Java, Go, Swift).
  • Mastery of relevant frameworks (Spring, iOS SDK, etc., depending on project).
  • Mastery of TDD, DevOps principles, version control (Git), and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Mastery of Agile development methodologies.
  • Advanced proficiency in cloud computing (AWS, GCP, Azure – experience with one or more preferred).
  • Advanced proficiency in RESTful APIs and potentially other API styles (gRPC, etc.).
  • Advanced experience with performance profiling and advanced debugging tools.
  • (For Mobile roles): Mastery of declarative UI solutions, battery management, and MVVM patterns.
  • (For Full-Stack roles): Mastery of data structures and algorithms, object-oriented programming, and design patterns.
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or similar containerization technologies is essential.
  • Experience with Kafka, RabbitMQ, or other message brokers is essential.
  • Strong understanding of networking concepts (SDN, NFV) is a significant plus.
  • Experience with contributing to open-source projects is a plus.
